Dean of the Tisch School of the Arts at NYU Will Step Down Next August

SchmidtCampbellMary Schmidt Campbell, dean of the Tisch School of the Arts at New York University, has announced that she will step down from her post on August 31, 2014. Dean Campbell has served as dean of the school for the past 22 years. After taking a one-year sabbatical, Dr. Campbell will return to the Tisch School as a tenured professor in the department of art and public policy. She will also have the title of Dean Emerita.

Before joining the faculty at the Tisch School in 1991, Dr. Campbell was executive director of the Studio Museum in Harlem and was the commissioner of the Department of Cultural Affairs for the City of New York.

Dr. Campbell is a graduate of Swarthmore College in Pennsylvania, where she majored in English literature. She holds a master’s degree in art history and a Ph.D. in humanities from Syracuse University. She is the co-editor of Artistic Citizenship: A Public Voice for the Arts (Routledge, 2006).
