One Woman Among the New Class of 13 Simons Investigators

Maryam-MirzakhaniThe Simons Foundation recently announced this year’s class of Simons Investigators in Mathematics, Physics, and Computer Science. The 13 Simons Investigators receive $100,000 each year for the next five years for their research. Their academic departments receive $10,000 per year to support their research.

This year, only one of the 13 Simons Investigators is a woman. Maryam Mirzakhani is a professor of mathematics at Stanford University. She has served on the Stanford faculty since 2008. Dr. Mirzakhani is a graduate of the Sharif University of Technology in Tehran, Iran. She earned a Ph.D. from Harvard University.
