Grants or Gifts Relating to Women in Higher Education

Here is this week’s news of grants and gifts that may be of particular interest to women in higher education.

The American Association of University Women has announced its class of 2013-14 fellowship award winners. This year the AAUW is awarding $3.7 million to 245 scholars, research projects, and programs promoting education and equity for women and girls. This is the 125th class of award winners. Since 1886, the AAUW has made grants totaling more than $100 million to more than 12,000 women.

Case Western Reserve University received a $192,000 grant from the U.S. Department of Justice for a program to curb domestic violence in the Cleveland metropolitan area. The university’s Begun Center for Violence Prevention Research and Education will team up with local agencies to collect and analyze data on domestic violence.

The Alexandria campus of Northern Virginia Community College received a grant from the Fairfax County Office of Public/Private Partnerships to support the college’s Women’s Center. The grant will allow the center to provide students with financial aid, stipends for books, and emergency funds.

Maura Mast to Be the First Woman President of Seattle University

Dr. Mast, the first woman to serve as dean of Fordham University's Fordham College at Rose Hill, is slated to become the first woman president of Seattle University in Washington on September 1.
