Pine Manor College in Chestnut Hill, Massachusetts, has announced plans to transition to a fully co-educational institution. The liberal arts college was founded in 1911 and remained exclusively for women until 1996. That year, the college established its English Language Institute for foreign students and men were admitted to this program. Men were admitted to the new master of fine arts program in creative writing when it began in 2005. In recent years, men also have been permitted to enroll in associate degree programs and will be included in adult learning programs that are commencing this fall.
Now, for the first time, the college has decided to admit men to it regular bachelor’s degree programs
“Pine Manor College has a rich, 100-year history of educating women of promise”, said Board Chair Serena Kokjer Greening. “We believe our plan to enroll men and women at Pine Manor will expand our diversity, enrich the learning experience, increase enrollment, and provide financial sustainability going forward.”
