Wesleyan University Scientist to Be Honored for Her Paleoceanography Research

Ellen Thomas, research professor of earth and environmental sciences at Wesleyan University in Middletown, Connecticut, has been selected to receive the Maurice Ewing Medal from the American Geophysical Union. The award, which is jointly sponsored by the U.S. Navy, recognizes significant contributions to deep-sea exploration. Professor Thomas will receive the award at the association’s annual meeting in San Francisco this December.
Professor Thomas’s research focuses on paleooceanography, the study of fossils in ocean beds and sediment. She holds bachelor’s, master’s, and Ph.D. degrees, all from the University of Utrecht in The Netherlands.
