The Council of Graduate Schools has released new data on enrollments for the 2010-11 academic year. The data shows that women made up 59 percent of the total enrollments in graduate programs.
But there was a wide gender disparity depending on the major field of study. For example, women made up 75 percent of the total enrollments in graduate programs in education and 80 percent of the total enrollments in the health sciences. But women were only 29 percent of the graduate students in mathematics and computer science and only 22 percent in engineering.
