Karen Lawrence, who served as president of Sarah Lawrence College in Yonkers, New York, for 10 years, has been named president of The Huntington Library, Art Collections and Botanical Gardens in San Marino, California. She is the former dean of the School of Humanities at the University of California, Irvine.

Leaving their teaching positions are Susan MacManus at the University of South Florida in Tampa, Mary Miller at Yale University in Connecticut, and Jennifer W. Foster at Emory University in Atlanta.
The Addison Emery Verrill Medal honors "signal practitioners in the arts of natural history and natural sciences." The two women winners are May Berenbaum of the University of Illinois at Urbana/Champaign and Naomi Pierce of Harvard University.
In announcing the award the society stated that "Henry’s work specializes in painting, textile and mixed-media installation work that explores social relationships through depictions of the human figure shown in isolation and interacting with one another."
