President Bair cited family reasons for her decision to step down after two years of a five-year term. But published reports suggested that there were strains between the college’s board and the president.
Three American Women Among the Seven Finalists for the George Washington Prize
The $50,000 prize recognizes the best book on the nation’s founding era. Among the authors who are finalists for the award are Mary Sarah Bilder of the Boston College Law School, Kathleen Duval of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and Janet Polasky of the University of New Hampshire.
Sheila Bair Named the 28th President of Washington College
Sheila Bair served as chair of the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation fro 2006 to 2011. Earlier, she was Dean’s Professor of Financial Regulatory Policy in the School of Management at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst. She will be first woman president of Washington College.
