The women appointed to new academic roles are Angela Wilson at Texas A&M University, Michelle Heck at Virginia Tech, Fenaba R. Addo at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and Abby Storrs at Southern State Community College in Ohio.
The women selected for new endowed positions in the academic world are Valerie Thomas of Virginia Tech, Shailey Mahendra of the University of California, Los Angeles, Esther Freeman of Harvard Medical School, and Laura Marcu of the University of California, Davis.
Dr. Ragan recently retired from her role as director of the Center for Public and Corporate Veterinary Medicine at Virginia Tech, where she worked for the past 16 years. She previously spent nearly two decades as a veterinary epidemiologist for the United States Department of Agriculture.
The appointments are Mansi Kasliwal at the California Institute of Technology, Haley Oliver at Purdue University in Indiana, Jan Eberth at the Virginia-Maryland College of Veterinary Medicine in Blacksburg, Virginia, and Aunpama Pasricha at St. Catherine University in Minnesota.

The women faculty members appointed to new positions are Ana Rangel at Virginia Tech, Sarah Fincham at Washington State University, and Julia Galloway at the University of Montana.
The Society of Mining Professors is an international organization dedicated to advancing the future of mining, minerals, and energy disciplines. Emily Sarver, the Stonie Barker Professor of Mining and Minerals Engineering at Virginia Tech, will serve as the society's next president.
The women taking on new faculty positions are Tori Young at Vanderbilt University, Sarah Font at Washington University, Lizette Zietsman at Virginia Tech, Kristina Bowdrie at Case Western Reserve University, Ana Daugherty at Wayne State University, Swetha Regunathan at Haverford College, and Andrea Hickerson at the University of Mississippi.
Following eight years of service as dean of Virginia Tech's College of Engineering, Dr. Ross is slated to become the university's chief academic officer in January.
