The University of Saint Joseph in West Hartford, Connecticut, announced that men will be eligible for admission to all of the university's undergraduate programs, effective for students entering in the fall of 2018.
Under the new plan, entering women students who major in accounting or management and maintain their grades at a high level can gain free entry into the university's master's degree program in management. The 36-credit master's degree program costs nearly $28,000 in tuition.
The University of St. Joseph in West Hartford, Connecticut, was founded in 1932 by the Sisters of Mercy of Connecticut. Since its founding, full-time undergraduate programs have been restricted to women. Now a task force has been convened to examine whether the college should admit men to its full-time undergraduate programs.
The University of Saint Joseph enrolls about 1,000 women in undergraduate programs. There are approximately 1,600 students enrolled in the university's co-educational graduate programs. Dr. Free will take office on July 1.
On the undergraduate level, the university remains a woman's college for residential students. But men are permitted to enroll in its undergraduate Program for Adult Learners and in the university's graduate programs.
