Tiantian Yang of Penn's Wharton School has conducted a new study that found women who have been rejected from gig work in IT and computer programming are less likely to reapply and less likely to pursue future work in STEM than rejected men. This pattern was not found among men who had been rejected from work in writing and translation, two fields dominated by women.

Women represent nearly 53 percent of all Americans with a bachelor's degree. However, they earn just 70.8 percent for every one dollar earned by men with a bachelor's degree. Women bachelor's degree holders earn less than their male counterparts in every field of study, including disciplines where women are overrepresented.

"The headwinds remain fierce in higher education, but Simpson is clearly poised for a promising future," said Susan Stuebner, who was recently appointed interim president of Simpson College in Iowa.
