Dr. Owens is president emerita of Gwynedd Mercy University in Montgomery County, Pennsylvania. She led the university as president from 2002 to her retirement in 2017. Earlier in her higher education career, Dr. Owens served as vice president of academic affairs at Saint Francis University in Loretto, Pennsylvania.
Misericordia University in Dallas, Pennsylvania, has announced the promotion of four women to the rank of associate professor. The women were also granted tenure.
The program provides housing for single mothers and their children, so the mothers can pursue a college education. At Misericordia University in Dallas, Pennsylvania, there are three houses that can house 16 families. There are only eight programs of this kind at colleges across the country.
Karen Armitage was appointed interim dean of the College of Public Health at the University of New Mexico. Heidi L.K. Manning was named dean of the College of Arts and Sciences at Misericordia University in Pennsylvania, and Stella N. Batalama was appointed dean of the College of Engineering and Computer Science at Florida Atlantic University.
The Ruth Matthews Bourger Women With Children Program at Misericordia University in Dallas, Pennsylvania, was established in 2000. It provides housing to single women with up to two children so the mothers can attend college without having to worry about housing costs for their families.
Amanda M. Caleb was promoted to associate professor of English. Kelly Filipkowski was a promoted to associate professor of psychology and Kathleen Sheikh was promoted to associate professor of nursing. All three were granted tenure.
The six women in new posts are Jane Kamensky at Harvard University, Melanie Shepherd at Misericordia University, Jennifer F. Hamer at the University of Kansas, Kristina Kleutghen at Washington University, Trudier Harris at the University of Alabama, and Marketa Marvanova at North Dakota State University.
The five women leaving their positions are Carol Geary Schneider of the Association of American Colleges and Universities, Gianna Marrs at the University of Maine, Patricia Biesiot at the University of University of Southern Mississippi, Mimi Fenton of Western Carolina University, and Betty Porzuczek of Misericordia University.
Kathleen Scaler Scott was promoted at Misericordia University in Pennsylvania. Winifred E. Newman was named chair of the department of architecture at the University of Arkansas and Susan Groenke was named director of a new doctoral program at the University of Tennessee.
Dr. Hinton currently serves as vice president for academic affairs at Mount Saint Mary College in Newburgh, New York. Earlier in her career, she was associate vice president for academic affairs at Misericordia University in Dallas, Pennsylvania.
