In Memoriam: Marion English Broome, 1951-2025

A veteran of the United States Army Nursing Corps, Dr. Broome held nursing leadership positions at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, Indiana University, and Duke University. Alongside her teaching and administrative roles, she studied ethical pediatric nursing practices, as well as the education and training of nursing executives.

An advocate for rural health nursing, Jeri Dunkin spent over a decade as the Saxon Endowed Chair of Nursing at the University of Alabama.

Four Women Selected to Serve as Deans

Lucy Flesch was named dean of the College of Science at Purdue University in West Lafayette, Indiana, and Elizabeth Gray will be the founding dean of the Medical College of Georgia Southeast Campus in Savannah. Julie Hixson-Wallace was named dean of the College of Pharmacy at Harding University in Searcy, Arkansas, and Tony Jean Dickerson was appointed dean of the School of Education at Martin University in Indianapolis.

In Memoriam: Dorothy McDonnell Cooke, 1946-2016

Dorothy McDonnell Cooke won a Bronze Star for her service as a flight nurse during the Vietnam War. Dr. Cooke taught in the School of Nursing at Saint Louis University for 32 years.

Three Women Appointed to Lead Academic Centers

Susan Fagan is the founding director of Center for Pharmacy and Experimental Therapeutics at the Medical College of Georgia. Wesley Hogan will lead the Center for Documentary Studies at Duke and Lillian Eby was named director of the Owens Institute for Behavioral Research at the University of Georgia.
