The four women with ties to the academic world who are winners of this year's Whiting awards are: Terese Marie Mailhot of the Institute of American Indian Arts in Santa Fe, New Mexico, Nafissa Thompson-Spires of the University of Illinois, Vanessa AngeÌlica Villarreal of the University of Southern California, and Lauren Yee of Princeton University.
