Elizabeth L. Paul Named the 16th President of Capital University in Columbus, Ohio
Dr. Paul currently serves as executive vice president and provost at Stetson University in DeLand, Florida. She has served as provost since 2009. She is also a tenured full professor of psychology at the university.
Three Women Scholars Appointed by President Obama to the National Council on the Humanities
The three presidential appointees are computer science professor Francine Berman of Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, New York, history professor Patricia Limerick of the University of Colorado at Boulder, and Shelly C. Lowe executive director of the Native American Program at Harvard University.
Virginia Carson to Step Down as President of South Georgia State College
Dr. Carson became interim president of South Georgia College in 2008 and president in 2009. In 2013, South Georgia College merged with Waycross College to form South Georgia State College with Dr. Carson named to lead the merged institution. She will step down as president on June 30.
Paula Johnson Named the Next President of Wellesley College
Dr. Johnson is a professor at Harvard Medical School and the Harvard School of Public Health. She is the founder and executive director of the Connors Center for Women’s Health and Gender Biology at Boston’s Brigham and Women’s Hospital.
The New Provost at the University of North Carolina at Wilmington
From 2007 to 2014, Dr. Marilyn Sheerer was provost at East Carolina University in Greenville, North Carolina. There, she also served as dean of the College of Education and in several other administrative roles.

Joyce Helens, president of St. Cloud Technical and Community, will serve as acting president of Rochester Community and Technical College. While President Helens serves in Rochester, Peg Shroyer will be acting president at St. Cloud Technical and Community College. She is vice president for academic affairs at the college.
The Nationwide Gender Gap in College Graduation Rates
For all students who enrolled in bachelor’s degree programs at four-year institutions in 2008, 62.3 percent of women earned their degree by 2014. For men, the graduation rate was 5.8 percentage points lower at 56.5 percent.
Laurie Roades Is a New Dean at California State University, Fullerton
Laurie A. Roades was appointed dean of the College of Health and Human Development at California State University, Fullerton. She was a professor and associate dean in the College of Letters, Arts, and Social Sciences at California State Polytechnic University in Pomona.

Dr. Schumacher has been serving as vice president for academic affairs at Tiffin University in Ohio. Before joining the staff at Tiffin in 2010, Dr. Schumacher was the founding director of the global leadership program at the Indiana Institute of Technology.

Ashley Leeds, professor and chair of the department of political science at Rice University in Houston, Texas, is the new president-elect of the International Studies Association. She will become president of the association in March 2017.

Susan Hockfield to Lead the American Association for the Advancement of Science
Susan Hockfield, president emerita of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, will officially become president-elect at the conclusion of the 182nd annual meeting of the association in Washington this coming February. A year later, she will become the association’s president.
Stacey Franklin Jones Resigns as Chancellor of Elizabeth City State University
Dr. Jones has been chancellor for only 15 months. The university has seen enrollments decline by more than 50 percent over the past five years, which has reduced revenues and created financial problems for the university.

Since 2011, Dr. Mattison has served as dean of the College of Professional Studies at the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay. Earlier, she served in several faculty and administrative roles during a 21-year career at the University of Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls.
Nancy Carriuolo Agrees to Step Down as President of Rhode Island College
The state governing council stated that “certain differences have arisen between and Council and the president relating to the operation of Rhode Island College.” As a result President Nancy Carricuolo was “terminated without cause.” She will remain as president until the college’s spring commencement.
Merry Wiesner-Hanks to Lead the World History Association
Merry E. Wiesner-Hanks is a Distinguished Professor of history at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. She will serve for two years as vice president and president-elect and then become president of the World History Association in 2018.
The Gender Gap in Doctoral Degree Awards
In 2014, women earned 46.1 percent of all doctoral degrees awarded by American universities. But in some major disciplines, the gender gap was huge. Women earned 28.7 percent of the doctorates in the physical sciences and 22.9 percent of engineering doctorates.

The College of New Rochelle Will Transition to Full Co-Education
Since its founding in 1904, undergraduate programs in the School of Arts & Sciences at the main campus of The College of New Rochelle in New York have been open only to women. But beginning in the fall of 2016, these undergraduate programs will also be open to men.
