Bernadette Gray-Little, the 17th chancellor of the University of Kansas, announced that she will step down at the end of the current academic year. When she was named chancellor in 2009, Dr. Gray-Little became the first woman in history to hold the position.

Judy Mitchell Named the Ninth President of Joliet Junior College in Illinois
Dr. Mitchell has served as interim president of Joilet Junior College since March of this year. From 2012 to early 2016, she was vice president of administrative services at the college. Dr. Mitchell holds a doctorate in community college leadership from National Louis University in Chicago.

Some women’s colleges made impressive gains in their rankings. In fact of the six women’s colleges ranked in the top 50 of all national liberal arts colleges, five have shown an improvement over their rankings in 2013. Wellesley College is now ranked third nationally among all liberal arts colleges.

University of Louisville Scholar Named Editor of Medical Journal
Heidi Koenig, a professor of anesthesiology and perioperative medicine at the University of Louisville and president of the Kentucky Society of Anesthesiologists, was named editor-in-chief of the journal of the Federation of State Medical Boards.

Denise Whisenhunt has been serving as vice president for student services at the college. Whisenhunt is expected to serve as interim president for up to a year. The college currently enrolls about 17,000 students. Women make up 52 percent of the student body.

Carole S. Goldsmith has been serving as president of the Coalinga campus of West Hills College. She holds a doctorate in educational leadership from the joint doctoral program at University of California, Davis and California State University, Fresno.
