When she takes office on July 1, Dr. Starr will be first woman president of the highly ranked liberal arts college in Claremont, California. She currently serves as dean of the College of Arts and Science at New York University.
Leigh Neumayer to Lead the Medical Schools at the University of Arizona
Dr. Neumayer was named interim senior vice president for health sciences at the University of Arizona. In this role she will lead the University of Arizona College of Medicine in Tucson and the University of Arizona College of Medicine in Phoenix.

The First Woman President of Carroll University in Waukesha, Wisconsin
Sara Ray Stoelinga currently serves as the Sara Liston Spurlark Director of the Urban Education Institute at the University of Chicago. Dr. Stoelinga also serves as a professor in the Urban Teacher Education Program at the university. She will become president of Carroll University in July 2017.
Pareena Lawrence Named the 12th President of Hollins University in Roanoke, Virginia
Dr. Lawrence is the provost and chief academic officer at Augustana College in Rock Island, Illinois. Earlier in her career, she was a professor of economics and management and chair of the division of social sciences at the University of Minnesota at Morris.
Lynn Babington to Lead Fairfield University in Connecticut
Dr. Babington will become interim president on January 1 and is expected to serve until the end of the academic year. Since 2014, she has served as provost and senior vice president for academic affairs at the university. She previously served on the faculty at Northeastern University in Boston.
For the First Time, Men to Be Admitted to Residential Programs at Mary Baldwin University

Beverly Davenport Named Chancellor at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville

Women Continue to Hold a Large Lead in Higher Education Enrollments
The figures from the U.S. Department of Education show that during the 2014-15 academic year there were 15,562,317 women enrolled in higher education compared to 11,823,958 men. Thus, women made up 56.8 percent of all enrolled students.

Danielle Allen was appointed the James Bryant Conant University Professor at Harvard University, effective January 1. This is the highest honor bestowed on a faculty member at Harvard. Currently there are 24 University Professors at Harvard. Five are women.
Martha E. Pollack to Be the 14th President of Cornell University
Dr. Pollack will also hold a tenured faculty position in the departments of computer science and information science at Cornell. She has served as provost at the University of Michigan since 2013. Professor Pollack has been on the faculty at the University of Michigan since 2000.
President of Middlebury College to Lead the American Academy of Religion
With more than 9,000 members, the American Academy of Religion is the world’s largest organization dedicated to the critical study of religion. Dr. Patton will serve one year as vice president, one year as president-elect, and then in 2018 will become president of the organization.

Lisa Kachnic, chair of radiation oncology at the Vanderbilt University Medical Center, was elected president of the American Board of Radiology.

The University of Saint Joseph to Consider Transitioning to Co-Education
The University of St. Joseph in West Hartford, Connecticut, was founded in 1932 by the Sisters of Mercy of Connecticut. Since its founding, full-time undergraduate programs have been restricted to women. Now a task force has been convened to examine whether the college should admit men to its full-time undergraduate programs.
Gwendolyn Boyd Suspended as President of Alabama State University
By a vote of 8-6, the board of trustees of Alabama State University voted to suspend Gwendolyn Boyd from her position as president of the university. President Boyd was charged with “failure to maintain the confidence of the board.”

A year ago, Carolyn Meyers, president of Jackson State University, had her contract extended for another four years. Now, she has resigned after it was revealed that the university’s financial situation has deteriorated.

Zulma R. Toro is executive vice chancellor and provost at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock. She has held this post since 2013. And since July she has been serving as interim chancellor of the university. She will begin her new duties at Central Connecticut State University on January 3.
Barbara Ransby Elected President of the National Women’s Studies Association
Barbara Ransby is the Distinguished Professor of African American studies, gender and women’s studies, and history at the University of Illinois at Chicago. Her two-year term as president will begin at the conclusion of the association’s annual conference in Montreal in November.
Kimberly Gold Named President of Robeson Community College in North Carolina
Dr. Gold has been serving as executive vice president and chief academic officer at Isothermal Community College in Spindale, North Carolina. She has been on the faculty at Isothermal Community College since 1995.

Kelly Quintanilla was appointed interim president of Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi. She will assume her new duties on January 1, upon the retirement of current university president Flavius Killebrew. Currently, she is provost and vice president for academic affairs.
Tara J. Schapmire to Serve as President of the Association of Oncology Social Work
Tara J. Schapmire is an assistant professor of general internal medicine at the School of Medicine of the University of Louisville. She also is an affiliated faculty member at the university’s School of Social Work. She will serve one-year as president-elect and then become president of the organization in January 2018.
A Change in Leadership at the College of New Rochelle in New York
Judith Huntington, president of the newly co-educational College of New Rochelle in New York, resigned her position on October 15. The board of trustees cited “umet financial obligations” as a reason for the president’s resignation. Provost Dorothy Escribano was named interim president.

Karen Strier is the Irven DeVore Professor of Anthropology and the Vilas Research Professor at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Since 1982, Professor Strier has been conducting research on the northern muriqui monkey in Brazil. It is one of the world’s most critically endangered primates.
Missy Hopper of Mississippi State University to Lead Phi Kappa Phi
The honor society was founded in 1897 at the University of Maine. It is the nation’s oldest, largest, and most selective honor society for all academic disciplines. Since its founding, more than 1 million members have been inducted into the honorary society.
