Last fall, Sara Ray Stoelinga was named president of Carroll University in Waukesha, Wisconsin. Now, she has decided not to take the position and to remain in her faculty post at the University of Chicago. Dr. Stoelinga would have been the first woman president of the 170-year-old Carroll University.
Sharon Davies Named the Next Provost at Spelman College in Atlanta
In 2015, Professor Davies was named vice provost and chief diversity officer at Ohio State University. She has been on the faculty at the university’s Moritz College of Law for the past 22 years and holds the Gregory H. Williams Chair in Civil Rights & Civil Liberties.

Teresa A. Sullivan, president of the University of Virginia, has announced that she will step down from her post after the 2017-18 academic year. Dr. Sullivan has been president of the University of Virginia since 2010. She is the first woman to hold the office.
Two Women Scholars Appointed to Leadership Posts at Major Journals
Laura Sands, professor of gerentology in the department of human development at Virginia Tech, has been named editor-in-chief of the new journal Innovation in Aging. Korina Jocson, associate professor of education at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst, was named editor of Equity & Excellence in Education, the official journal of the university’s College of Education.
The Next President of Delaware County Community College in Pennsylvania
Dr. L. Joy Gates Black has been serving as vice chancellor for academic affairs at Tarrant County College District in Fort Worth, Texas. She joined the staff at Tarrant County College in 2010. Earlier, Dr. Gates Black served in administrative roles at community colleges in Texas, California, and Massachusetts.
Barbara Mikulski Joins the Faculty at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore
Barbara A. Mikulski holds the record as longest-tenured senator from the state of Maryland and served in the U.S. Congress longer than any woman in U.S. history. She was named a professor of public policy and adviser to the president of Johns Hopkins University.
Joyce Loveday Appointed President of Clover Park Technical College
The college, in Lakewood, Washington, enrolls about 3,700 students. Women make up 64 percent of the student body. Dr. Loveday has been on the staff at the college since 2002 and has been serving as interim president since June 2016.

T. Kyle Vanderlick, dean of the School of Engineering & Applied Science at Yale University, will step down at the end of the calendar year to return to teaching and Martha Minow, dean of Harvard Law School, announced that she will step down as dean at the end of the current academic year.
Elizabeth Howe Bradley Named the Eleventh President of Vassar College
Dr. Bradley currently serves as the Bradley-Johnson Professor of Grand Strategy, head of the residential Branford College, and faculty director of the Global Health Leadership Institute at Yale University. She will become president of Vassar College on July 1.
Molly Corbett Broad to Step Down From the Presidency of the American Council on Education
Molly Corbett Broad became the 12th president of the American Council on Education in 2008. She is the first woman to serve in the post since the organization’s founding in 1918. She will step down as president on October 31.

Tricia R. Serio currently serves as a professor and chair of the department of molecular and cellular biology at the University of Arizona. Dr. Christine Pharr will become president of Mount Mary University on July 1, upon the retirement of Ellen Schwalbach who has led the educational institution since 2008. Dr. Pharr currently serves as vice president for alumnae and donor relations at the College of St. Mary in Omaha, Nebraska.
The New Chair of the Board of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges
Nancy B. Moody is the first woman president of Tusculum College in Greenville, Tennessee. She has served in this role since 2009. Earlier in her career, Dr. Moody was the first woman to serve as president of Lincoln Memorial University in Harrogate, Tennessee.
The Next President of Atlantic Cape Community College in New Jersey
The board of trustees of Atlantic Cape Community College in Mays Landing, New Jersey, has named Barbara Gaba as the educational institution’s next president. Dr. Gaba has been serving as provost and vice president for academic affairs at Union County College in Cranford, New Jersey.

Dr. Larissa Littleton-Steib has been serving as vice chancellor for workforce development and technical education at Delgado Community College in Slidell, Louisiana. She will become chancellor of Baton Rouge Community College on January 2.

Alanna Hamilton to Lead Jackson State Community College in Tennessee
Since 2010, Dr. Hamilton has been vice president for academic affairs at Northeast State Community College in Blountville, Tennessee. She has been a faculty member at the college since 1991. Dr. Hamilton will become president of Jackson State Community College on January 10.
Marjorie Hass to Be the First Woman President of Rhodes College in Memphis
Since 2009, Dr. Hass has been serving as president of Austin College in Sherman, Texas. She also serves as chair of the National Association of Independent Colleges and Universities. She will become the first woman president in the 168-year history of Rhodes College on July 1.
Two Women Presidents of Philadelphia Educational Institutions Get Contract Extensions
Amy Gutmann, president of the University of Pennsylvania, had her contract extended through June 30, 2022. She will be the longest-serving president in the university’s history. Carol Jean Vale, president of Chestnut Hill College in Philadelaphia, was appointed to a sixth five-year term.
Cynthia Warrick to Lead Stillman College in Alabama
Cynthia Warrick will serve as interim president beginning on January 3. She is not considered to be a candidate for the position on a permanent basis. In the past, Dr. Warrick has served as interim president at Grambling State University in Louisiana and South Carolina State University.
