Kristi A. Nelson Is the New Provost at the University of Cincinnati
Dr. Nelson had retired from the university in 2015 before being called to serve as interim provost in October 2016. She served on faculty of the College of Design, Architecture, Art, and Planning for 36 years. She was senior vice provost for 15 years.

In 2017, there were 10,810 women who matriculated at U.S. medical schools, compared to 10,516 men. This is the first time in history that more women have entered U.S. medical schools than men.
The Next President of Kirkwood Community College in Cedar Rapids, Iowa
Lori Sundberg will become the fifth president of the community college on August 1. Dr. Sundberg currently serves as president of Carl Sandburg College in Galesburg, Illinois. She became president of the college in 2010 after serving as vice president for academic services and vice president for administrative services.

Sandra Haynes Appointed Chancellor of the Tri-Cities Campus of Washington State University
Sandra Haynes has been serving as deputy provost for academic and student affairs at Metropolitan State University in Denver, Colorado. Earlier in her career, Dr Haynes served for 13 years as dean of the College of Professional Studies at Metropolitan State University. She will begin her new job on March 1.
Law Professor Appointed to the Colorado Supreme Court
Melissa Hart, a tenured professor and the director of the Bryon R. White Center for Constitutional Law at the University of Colorado, was appointed by Colorado Governor John Hickenlooper to serve on the Colorado Supreme Court. Professor Hart will continue to teach at the law school while sitting on the Court.
Inga Musselman Is the New Provost at the University of Texas at Dallas
Inga Musselman, a professor of chemistry at the University of Texas at Dallas, has been serving as interim provost since 2015. Professor Musselman joined the faculty at the university in 1992. She was appointed associate provost for faculty affairs in 2008 and senior vice provost in 2014.
Penn State’s Jenni Evans to Lead the American Meteorological Society
Jenni Evans is a professor of meteorology and atmospheric science in the College of Earth and Mineral Sciences at Pennsylvania State University. She will serve for one year as president-elect of the American Meteorological Society and then will become president in January 2019.

Valerie Jarrett Named a Distinguished Senior Fellow at the University of Chicago Law School
For eight years, Valerie Jarrett was a senior adviser to the President during the Obama administration. In her new role, she will participate in academic seminars, conferences, and student-led initiatives. Brown University’s Jill Pipher Elected as the Next President of the American Mathematical Society
Jill Pipher, the Elisha Benjamin Andrews Professor of Mathematics and vice president for research at Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island, will serve a two-year term as president of the American Mathematical Society, beginning in 2019.

A native of Scotland, Dr. Morrison-Shetlar currently serves as provost and vice chancellor for academic affairs. She is also a tenured professor of biology. Professor Morrison-Shetlar joined the faculty at Western Carolina University in 2014. From 2010 to 2014, she was dean of the College of Arts and Sciences at Elon University in North Carolina.

Wendy Fritzen Hensel is the new dean of the College of Law at Georgia State University. Sonia Hirt was appointed dean of the College of Environment and Design at the University of Georgia and Lisa Rosen-Metsch was named dean of the School of General Studies at Columbia University in New York City.
Kalindi Vora Appointed Director of the Feminist Research Institute at the University of California, Davis
The Feminist Research Institute is a collaborative, trans-disciplinary hub for exploring how gender, sexuality, race, and other social structures inform the design, execution, and interpretation of research. Among the institute’s current research projects are working groups on soil health, radical mycology, feminism and precision medicine, and speculative ecofeminist futures.
Five Women Named to the Nineteenth Class of George Mitchell Scholars
