Cecilia McCormick Named President of Elizabethtown College in Pennsylvania
Currently, McCormick serves as vice provost for academic strategy and special programs at Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia. Earlier in her career, she was chief of staff to the senior vice president for finance and administration and chief operating officer at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore.
Carol Folt Announces She Is Stepping Down as Chancellor of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill
The resignation announcement was made while the University of North Carolina System’s board of governors was in an emergency session meeting on “issues related to UNC-Chapel Hill’s leadership,” according to board chair Harry L. Smith Jr. The board was not notified in advance of Chancellor Folt’s decision.
Erica Harden Named President of Oconee Fall Line Technical College in Sandersville, Georgia
Erica Harden began her career at the college in 1990 as director of public relations and marketing and has since held roles as director of admissions, executive director of student affairs, and vice president of academic and student affairs. Most recently, she has served as executive vice president.
Patricia Kunz Howard Is the New Leader of the Emergency Nurses Association
Patricia Kunz Howard, the University of Kentucky HealthCare enterprise director for emergency services, has been named president of the Emergency Nurses Association. She is the first person in the history of the association to be elected president twice.
Kimberly Ballard-Washington Selected to Lead Savannah State University in Georgia
Ballard-Washington currently serves as associate vice chancellor for legal affairs for the University System of Georgia. Ballard-Washington will become interim president on July 1 upon the retirement of Cheryl Davenport Dozier. Dr. Dozier had led Savannah State University since 2011.
Stacia Haynie Appointed Provost and Executive Vice President at Louisiana State University
Dr. Haynie has been serving as interim provost. Earlier, Dr. Haynie was dean of the College of Humanities and Social Sciences and is the J.W. Annison Jr. Family Alumni Professor in the department of political science. She joined the faculty at Louisiana State University in 1990.
Coppin State University President Maria Thompson to Step Down at the End of the Academic Year
Maria Thompson,the first woman president of Coppin State University in Baltimore, Maryland, has announced she will retire at the end of the academic year after overcoming recent health challenges. She became president of Coppin State University in 2015.
Kelli Armstrong Will Be the Eighth President of Salve Regina University in Newport, Rhode Island
Dr. Armstrong currently serves as vice president for planning and assessment at Boston College in Chestnut Hill, Massachusetts. When she takes office in July, Dr. Armstrong will be the first leader of Salve Regina University who is not a member of the Religious Sisters of Mercy.
Joan Neff Is the New Leader of the West Virginia Institute of Technology
Dr. Neff was appointed provost at the university campus this past spring and she will continue to serve in that role. Before coming to the West Virginia University Institute of Technology, Dr. Neff had been serving as provost and vice president of academic affairs at Longwood University in Farmville, Virginia.
Shirley Ann Jackson to Remain as President at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute Until at Least June 2022
Dr. Jackson was chair of the Nuclear Regulatory Commission from 1995 to 1999. She then left government service to take over as the 18th president of RPI in 1999. Dr. Jackson usually ranks at or near the top in rankings of the highest-paid college presidents in the country.
The First Woman President of the University of Rochester
Sarah Mangelsdorf was appointed President of the University of Rochester in New York. When she takes office in the summer of 2019, she will be the first woman to serve as president of the university. She is currently the provost and a professor of psychology at the University of Wisconsin-Madison
A Change in Leadership at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater
Beverly A. Kopper, chancellor of the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater, has announced that she will step down after the university raised allegations of sexual misconduct against her husband. Cheryl Green, vice chancellor for student affairs at the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh, was named interim chancellor.
The New Chancellor of Elizabeth City State University in North Carolina
Karrie Gibson Dixon has been serving as interim chancellor since April 2018. Before coming to Elizabeth City State University in 2017, Dr. Dixon was a senior administrator for the University of North Carolina System. Most recently, she was vice president for academic and student affairs.
Joan T. A. Gabel Named President of University of Minnesota
Gabel has served as the executive vice president for academic affairs and provost at the University of South Carolina since 2015. Previously, she served as dean of the University of Missouri’s Trulaske College of Business.
Teresa Abi-Nader Dahlberg Named Provost at Texas Christian University in Fort Worth
Currently, Dr. Dahlberg serves as dean of the College of Engineering and Computer Science at Syracuse University in New York. Prior to her current position, she served as chief academic officer, dean, and professor of electrical engineering at Cooper Union for the Advancement of Science and Art in New York.
Lisa Rhine Selected as Tenth President of Yavapai College in Prescott, Arizona
Dr. Rhine has 30 years of experience in higher education at both the community college and university level. Currently, she serves as the provost and chief operating officer of the Chesapeake Campus at Tidewater Community College in Virginia.
Wendy Raymond Appointed the Sixteenth President of Haverford College in Pennsylvania
Dr. Raymond joined the faculty at Williams College in Massachusetts in 1994 as an assistant professor of biology. She taught at Williams for 19 years and was promoted to the rank of full professor. In 2013, Dr. Raymond was hired for her current position as vice president for academic affairs and dean of faculty at Davidson College in North Carolina.
Paula Groves Price to Lead the American Educational Studies Association
Currently, Dr. Price is a professor of cultural studies and social thought in education at Washington State University. She also serves as associate dean for diversity and international programs in the university’s College of Education. She will serve a year as vice president and a year as president-elect, before becoming president.
Erika Endrijonas Appointed President of Pasadena City College in California
Dr. Endrijonas has served as president of Los Angeles Valley College for the past four years. Previously, she served as executive vice president and accreditation liaison officer at Oxnard College in California and was dean of educational programs at Santa Barbara City College in California.
Tara Murray Elected President of the Special Libraries Association
Currently, Murray serves as librarian for Germanic and Slavic languages and literatures at Pennsylvania State University Libraries. Murray will serve as president-elect in 2019 and become president of the Special Libraries Association in 2020.
A Strong Vote of Confidence for Swarthmore College President Valerie Smith
Valerie Smith, who took office as the 15th president of highly rated Swarthmore College in Pennsylvania on July 1, 2015, has had her contract extended through 2025. Before becoming president of Swarthmore College, Dr. Smith was dean of the college and the Woodrow Wilson Professor of Literature at Princeton University.
University of South Dakota’s Diane Sevening Is the Leader of NAADAC, the Association for Addiction Professionals
NAADAC, an association of addiction professionals, represents the professional interests of more than 100,000 addiction counselors and other addiction-focused health care professionals in the United States and around the world. Dr. Sevening has taught at the University of South Dakota since 1982.
Mary Feeney Appointed Editor of the Journal of Public Administration Research and Theory
Dr. Feeney is an associate professor and Lincoln Professor of Ethics in Public Affairs in the School of Public Affairs at Arizona State University. She also serves as the associate director of the ASU Center for Science, Technology, and Environmental Policy Studies. She will become the journal’s new editor in January.
Kelli Chaney Named President of the Tennessee College of Applied Technology at Knoxville
Most recently, Chaney was the dean of career education and workforce development at Big Sandy Community and Technical College in Preston, Kentucky. Additionally, she was the director of the community college’s Pikeville campus.
Education Department Proposes New Definition of Sexual Assault and Presumption of Innocence on College Campuses
The proposed change would narrow the definition of sexual misconduct from “unwelcome conduct of a sexual nature” to “unwelcome conduct on the basis of sex that is so severe, pervasive and objectively offensive that it denies a person access to the school’s education program or activity.”
Danette Johnson Named Chief Academic Officer at Kalamazoo College in Michigan
Dr. Johnson has been serving as a tenured professor and vice provost at Ithaca College in New York. Prior to teaching at Ithaca College, she had been a faculty member at West Virginia Wesleyan College and Texas Tech University. Dr. Johnson is the former executive director and president of the Eastern Communication Association.
Julie Murray-Jensen Will Be the Next President of Blackburn College in Illinois
Blackburn College in Carlinville, Illinois, is one of the very few educational institutions in the country classified as a “work college.” Students work on campus and receive tuition discounts as a result. Julie Murray-Jensen will become president in January. She has been serving in various roles at Klamath Community College in Oregon.
Bethany Flora Appointed President of Northeast State Community College in Blountville, Tennessee
Currently, Dr. Flora is the associate director of the Center for Community College Leadership at East Tennessee State University in Johnson City. She also serves as an associate professor of postsecondary leadership in the Clemmer College of Education. Dr. Flora will being her tenure as president in June 2019.

Most recently, Hughston was vice president of instruction and workforce development at Coastal Alabama Community College. Earlier, she was the dean of workforce development and technology at Faulkner State Community College in Bay Minette, Alabama.
May Berenbaum Named Editor-in-Chief of the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences
Dr. Berenbaum is the Swanlund Chair of Entomology and professor at the University of Illinois. She was elected to the National Academy of Sciences in 1994 and has served on the PNAS editorial board since 1998. She holds Ph.D. in ecology and evolutionary biology from Cornell University.

Complete College America is a national nonprofit organization that works with states to significantly increase the number of Americans with quality career certificates or college degrees and to close educational attainment gaps for traditionally underrepresented populations.
Anita Jones Thomas Appointed Provost at St. Catherine University in Saint Paul, Minnesota
Dr. Thomas currently serves as the founding dean of the College of Applied Behavioral Sciences at the University of Indianapolis. Earlier, she served on the faculty for 10 years and was associate dean of academic affairs and research in the School of Education at Loyola University in Chicago. She will become provost on June 3, 2019.
Another All Women’s College Is Fading Into History
The Sage Colleges in Troy and Albany, New York, have announced a new strategic plan to combine its separate colleges into one, unified coeducational school. Currently the institution describes itself as five separate colleges spread over two campuses, one of which is Russell Sage College, an all women’s school.
A Half Dozen Women Among the 2018 Packard Fellowships for Science and Engineering
Each of the 18 new Packard Fellows will receive $875,000 over five years for them to use to pursue their research interests in physics, chemistry, mathematics, biology, astronomy, computer science, earth science, ocean science, or engineering. This year, one third of the new cohort of Packard Fellows are women.
Janet Spriggs Named Seventh President of Forsyth Technical Community College in Winston-Salem, North Carolina
Dr. Spriggs comes to Forsyth from Rowan-Cabarrus Community College in Salisbury, North Carolina, where she served as chief operating officer. Earlier, she served as vice president and chief financial officer for the community college.
