Lori Rice-Spearman has served as interim president since November 2019. She joined TTUHSC in 1987 and served as chair of the department of laboratory sciences and primary care, dean of the School of Health Professions, associate provost, and provost.
Three Women Apppointed to Provost Posts at Campuses of California State University
Katherine Kantardjieff was named provost at California State University, Monterey Bay. Jenn Capps has been appointed provost and vice president for academic affairs at Humboldt State University in Arcata and Carolyn Thomas has been appointed provost and vice president for academic affairs at California State University, Fullerton.
The New President of Montgomery County Community College in Blue Bell, Pennsylvania
Victoria L. Bastecki-Perez has been selected to serve as the college’s sixth president. She has been serving as interim president so the appointment is effective immediately. Dr. Bastecki-Perez has been on the staff at the college since 1996 and was provost and vice president for academic affairs before being named interim president.
Connie Foster Selected to Lead the University of Wisconsin-River Falls
During her previous tenure at the university, Dr. Foster initially served as a professor of health and human performance, gymnastics coach, and women’s athletic director. She later was appointed athletic director and chair of the health and human performance department. She also served as interim chancellor for 10 months.
Susan Henking Selected as the Leader of Salem College in Winston-Salem, North Carolina
Dr. Henking has been serving as interim vice president for academic and student affairs and dean of the college. She is the former president of Shimer College in Chicago and earlier was a professor of religious studies at Hobart and William Smith Colleges in Geneva, New York.
Governors State University in Illinois Appoints Cheryl Green as Its Sixth President
Last year, Dr. Green was appointed interim chancellor of the University of Wisconson-Whitewater. At that time she was vice chancellor of student affairs at the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh. Earlier, Dr. Green served as assistant vice president of student affairs at Tennessee State University.
Four Universities Announce the Appointment of Women Provosts
The four women appointed to university provost positions are Debra J. Liebowitz at Quinnipiac University in Hamdem, Conncticut, Karlyn Crowley at Ohio Wesleyan University, Elizabeth Chilton at Washington State University, and AnneF. Herzog at the State University of New York at Plattsburgh.
Doris Cintrón Chosen to Lead Guttman Community College in New York City
Dr. Cintrón has been serving since 2012 as senior associate provost for academic affairs, assessment and accreditation at The City College of New York. She has served as an administrator at City College since 1994. Dr. Cintrón will become interim president at Guttman Community College on August 1.
Suzanne Rivera Will Be the First Woman to Lead Macalester College in St. Paul, Minnesota
Dr. Rivera has been serving as vice president for research and technology management at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland. Prior to her time at CWRU, Dr. Rivera spent seven years at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center working both in the Office of the Dean and Provost and in research leadership roles.
Natalie Harder Appointed the 17th President of Coker University in Hartsville, South Carolina
Since 2012, Dr. Harder has been serving as chancellor of South Louisiana Community College in Lafayette. Earlier, Dr. Harder served as vice president of institutional advancement at Patrick Henry Community College in Martinsville, Virginia, and as executive director of the Erie Community College Foundation in Buffalo, New York.
Ivy Ruth Taylor to Be the First Woman President of Rust College in Holly Springs, Mississippi
Dr. Taylor is the former mayor of San Antonio, Texas. She spent six years as a lecturer in public administration at the University of Texas at San Antonio. She also worked at a nonprofit affordable housing agency and served multiple terms as a city councilmember prior to her term as mayor.
Susan Gaber Chosen to Be the Fifth Chancellor of the University of North Carolina at Charlotte
Dr. Gaber currently serves as the first woman president of the University of Toledo in Ohio. She became president in 2015 following six years as provost and vice chancellor for academic affairs at the University of Arkansas. Dr. Gaber will become chancellor of the University of North Carolina at Charlotte on July 1.
Beth Young to Lead Rock Valley College in Illinois
Young has served as Rock Valley’s chief operating officer since December 2019, and as the college’s chief financial officer since 2016. Before arriving at Rock Valley College, Young was the dean of business affairs at Kishwaukee College in Malta, Illinois.
The New President of Southern West Virginia Community and Technical College
Dr. Pamela Alderman served most recently as the dean of the Bert Bradford School of Health Sciences, chair of the department of nursing, and professor of nursing at the University of Charleston in West Virginia. She began her new duties on May 11.
Susanna Baxter Will Be the Next President of LaGrange College in Georgia

Kathleen Cieplak Owens Comes Out of Retirement to Become President of Misericordia University in Pennsylvania
Dr. Owens is president emerita of Gwynedd Mercy University in Montgomery County, Pennsylvania. She led the university as president from 2002 to her retirement in 2017. Earlier in her higher education career, Dr. Owens served as vice president of academic affairs at Saint Francis University in Loretto, Pennsylvania.

Debbie Murray has been appointed to the newly created position of provost at Lee University. Dr. Murray holds the rank of distinguished professor of education at Lee University. She joined the Lee faculty in 1980 and has been serving as vice president for academic affairs since 2013.
Angélica Garcia Selected as the Next President of Berkeley City College in California
Before being named president of Berkeley City College, Dr. Garcia has been serving as the vice president of student services at Skyline College, a community college in San Bruno, California. She will begin her new job on May 7.
Marsha Kelliher Appointed President of Simpson College in Indianola, Iowa
Since 2017, Kelliher was served as president of Walsh College in Troy Michigan. Earlier, she was dean of Sigmund Weis School of Business at Susquehanna University in Selinsgrove, Pennsylvania. When she takes office on June 1, Kelliher will become the first woman to serve as president of Simpson College since its founding in 1860.
Baylor University’s Trena Wilkerson is the New Leader of the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics
The council, which has more than 30,000 members, is headquartered in Reston, Virginia, and publishes books for educators, as well as journals, including the Journal for Research in Mathematics Education, Mathematics Teacher: Learning and Teaching PK-12 and Mathematics Teacher Educator.
