University of Utah Leader to Become President of Strada Impact in April
Ruth V. Watkins, president of the University of Utah since 2018, announced that she has accepted a position as president of Strada Impact, where she will drive Strada Education Network’s national research, philanthropy, policy, and thought leadership with the goal of improving students’ access to college, degree completion and career connections.

Terri Shelton was appointed interim provost at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro and Malou C. Harrison is the new provost of Miami Dade College in Florida.
Naelys Luna Is the Founding Dean of the College of Social Work and Criminal Justice at Florida Atlantic University
Dr. Luna has been serving as interim dean since July 2019 and previously was a professor of social work at the university. Her research focuses on substance use disorders, mood disorders, spirituality, parental roles, mental health outcomes in minorities, and psychosocial functioning.
The First Woman Dean of the Business School at Benedict College in South Carolina
Tracey H. Dunn has been serving as interim dean for the past three years. She has served on the faculty at Benedict College for 18 years. Previously, she worked in the corporate sector for IBM and AT&T.
Sally McRorie Appointed President of the National Association of Schools of Art and Design
Dr. McRorie is provost and executive vice president for academic affairs at Florida State University. The National Association of Schools of Art and Design establishes national standards for undergraduate and graduate degrees and other credentials for art and design and art/design-related disciplines.
DeAnna R. Burt-Nanna Will Be the Next President of Monroe Community College in Rochester, New York
Dr. Burt-Nanna has been serving as vice president of student and academic affairs for South Central College, which has campuses in Faribault and North Mankato, Minnesota. Earlier, she served in various faculty and administrative roles at Baker College in Muskegon, Michigan.
University of New Mexico Scholar Named Chair-Elect of the Council of Graduate Schools
Julie Coonrod is a professor of civil, construction, and environmental engineering and dean of graduate studies at the University of New Mexico. Dr. Coonrod will serve as chair-elect during 2021 and become chair of the Council of Graduate Schools on January 1, 2022.
Brenda Molife Selected to Lead Massasoit Community College in Brockton, Massachusetts
During her 19-year career at Bridgewater State Univerity in Massachusetts, Dr. Molife has served in a variety of roles. Most recently she has been serving as vice president of outreach and engagement. Dr. Molife will begin her leadership of Massasoit Community College on January 11.
To Remain Open, Judson College in Alabama Has Achieved Its Fundraising Goal
On December 15, W. Mark Tew, president of Judson College, an educational institution for women in Marion, Alabama, that is affiliated with the Baptist Church, warned that the college would close if it did not raise $500,000 by the end of the year. By December 28, the college had raised $527,665.36.
Catherine Paden Will Be the Next Provost at Franklin Pierce University in New Hampshire
Dr. Paden currently services as deputy provost at Simmons University in Boston. She joined Simmons in 2006 as an assistant professor in the department of political science and international relations. Dr. Paden was named dean of undergraduate programs in 2016 and continues in that role today.
Rice University Scholar Chosen to Lead the Strategic Management Society
Yan “Anthea” Zhang, the Fayez Sarofim Vanguard Professor of Management at the Jones Graduate School of Business at Rice University in Houston, Texas, is the new president-elect of the Strategic Management Society. She will be president-elect for two years and then become president in 2023.
Susan Poser Appointed President of Hofstra University in Hempstead, New York
Dr. Poser has, for the past five years, served as the provost and vice chancellor for academic affairs at the University of Illinois Chicago. Previously, she was dean of the College of Law at the University of Nebraska.
Julia Jasken Appointed President of McDaniel College in Westminster, Maryland
Dr. Julia Jasken has been a professor of English at McDaniel College since 2003. For the past eight years, she has assumed increasing responsibility in administrative positions, most recently serving in her current role as the college’s executive vice president and provost.
The University of Louisville Names Its Next Provost
Dr. Lori Stewart Gonzalez currently serves as vice chancellor for academic, faculty, and student affairs at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center in Memphis. Before taking this position in 2015, Dr. Gonzalez served as senior advisor to the senior vice president for academic affairs at the University of North Carolina General Administration.
Vernell Bennett-Fairs Named the Thirteenth President of LeMoyne-Owen College in Memphis
Since 2016, Dr. Bennett-Fairs has been serving as vice president for student affairs at Delta State University in Cleveland, Mississippi. Earlier, she was vice president for student affairs at Kentucky State University.
Marielena DeSanctis Appointed President of the Community College of Denver
Dr. Desanctis has been serving as provost and senior vice president of academic affairs and student services at Broward College in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Prior to joining Broward College in 2014, Dr. DeSanctis served as the executive director of curriculum for Broward County Public Schools.
Brandeis University in Massachusetts Appoints Carol Fierke as Provost
Since 2017, Dr. Fierke has been provost and executive vice president at Texas A&M University. She also holds professorships in chemistry and biochemistry and has been conducting research on COVID-19. Prior to arriving at Texas A&M, Dr. Fierke spent much of her career at the University of Michigan.
Margaret Annunziata Will Be the Next President of Isothermal Community College in North Carolina
Dr. Annunziata is currently vice president for academic affairs at Davidson County Community College in Thomasville, North Carolina. She previously served as director of student success and institutional assessment at Davidson County Community College.
Montserrat Fuentes Will Be the Next President of St. Edward’s University in Austin, Texas
Dr. Fuentes has been serving as professor of statistics and executive vice president and provost at the University of Iowa. Earlier, she served on the faculty at North Carolina State University and was dean of Humanities and Sciences at Virginia Commonwealth University.
Arizona State University Appoints Nancy Gonzalez as Its Next Provost
Dr. Gonzalez joined the faculty at Arizona State University in 1992 as an assistant professor in psychology. She moved up through both the academic and administrative ranks, most recently serving as dean of natural sciences and Foundation Professor of Psychology in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences.
Shannon Jesme to Lead Northland Community and Technical College in Minnesota
Dr. Jesme has worked at Northland Community and Technical College since 2008. From 2010 to 2015, she was director of finance and chief financial officer. In 2015 she was promoted to vice president of administrative services/CFO.
Cloud County Community College Names Amber Knoettgen as Its Ninth President
Knoettgen has been serving as interim president since May. She came to Cloud County Community College in July 2016 as the director of advisement and retention. In November 2017, Knoettgen was named vice president for administrative services.
Elizabeth Watkins Will Be the Next Provost at the University of California, Riverside
Dr. Watkins currently serves as vice chancellor, dean of the Graduate Division, and professor in the department of anthropology, history, and social medicine at the University of California, San Francisco. She is the author or co-editor of five books.
The New Chancellor of the Anderson Campus of Ivy Tech Community College in Indiana
Before being named interim chancellor of the Anderson campus this past summer, Dr. Anderson was vice chancellor for academic affairs at the Muncie campus of Ivy Tech. She has been with Ivy Tech for more than 12 years.
Madeline Pumariega Will Be the First Woman President of Miami Dade College
In her most recent role, Pumariega has been serving as executive vice president and provost at Tallahassee Community College in Florida. Pumariega was appointed as the first woman and first Hispanic chancellor of the Florida College System in 2015.
Waded Cruzado is the New Chair of the Board of the Association of Public and Land-grant Universities
Dr. Cruzado has been president of Montana State since January 2010. Prior to coming to Montana State, Dr. Cruzado served as executive vice president and provost at New Mexico State University. She served as NMSU’s interim president from 2008-2009. She also served as dean of the College of Arts and Sciences at NMSU from 2003 to 2007.
Marsha Gable Selected as the New Leader of Grossmont College in El Cajon, California
Dr. Gable has been serving for the past five years as vice president of student services at Grossmont College. She served for eight months in 2019 and 2020 as interim president of San Diego Miramar College. Earlier, Dr. Gable was dean of counseling services and admissions and records at Cuyamaca College in Rancho San Diego, California.
Karen Carey Is the New Chancellor of the University of Alaska Southeast
Dr. Carey has been serving as interim chancellor since June. Previously, she was provost and dean of graduate studies at the university. Earlier in her career, Dr. Carey served in dean positions at California State University, Channel Islands and California State University, Fresno.
Christina Paxson Elected Board Chair of the Association of American Universities
Founded in 1900, the Association of American Universities is composed of 65 of America’s leading research universities that receive about three-fifths of all federal research grant funds. Dr. Paxson has served as Brown University’s nineteenth president and a professor of economics and public policy since July 1, 2012.
Lena Hill Will Be the Next Provost at Washington and Lee University in Lexington, Virginia
Dr. Hill currently serves as dean of the College and professor of English and Africana studies at the university. Prior to joining Washington and Lee, Hill was associate vice president and interim chief diversity officer at the University of Iowa, where she was an associate professor of English and African American studies.

President Mahoney joined the staff at the college in 2018 as the chief operating officer. She is the former Chief executive of Onondaga County in New York. Earlier, she was both a private attorney and a criminal prosecutor for Onondaga County’s district attorney’s office.

Michelle Majewski Is the New President of Marian University in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin
Dr. Majewski has been serving as acting president since April. She has been employed by the university for nearly 30 years. Dr. Majewski was awarded a three-year contract as the seventeenth president of the university.
Cathy Sandeen Will Be the Next President of California State University, East Bay
Since September 2018, Dr. Sandeen has been serving as chancellor of the University of Alaska Anchorage. Prior to that role, Dr. Sandeen was chancellor of the University of Wisconsin Colleges and the University of Wisconsin Extension. She will become president of California State University, East Bay on January 4.
Stefani Hicswa Will Be the First Woman Chancellor of Montana State University Billings
Dr. Hicswa currently serves as president of Northwest College in Powell, Wyoming, a position she has held since 2013. Prior to Northwest College, Hicswa served for seven years as president of Miles Community College in Miles City, Montana. She will become the chancellor of Montana State University Billings on January 11.
