Kayse Shrum Will Be the First Woman President of Oklahoma State University
Dr. Shrum has served as president of the Oklahoma State University Center for Health Sciences in Tulsa since 2013. A the time of her appointment, she was the youngest and first woman president and dean of a medical school in the state of Oklahoma.
Dipti Itchhaporia Is the New President of the American College of Cardiology
Itchhaporia is an interventional cardiologist who holds the Eric and Sheila Samson Endowed Chair in Cardiovascular Health and is the director of disease management for the Jeffrey M. Carlton Heart and Vascular Institute in Newport Beach, California. She is an associate professor of medicine at the University of California, Irvine.
Joanne Li Selected to Lead the University of Nebraska-Omaha
Dr. Li is currently the dean, professor of finance, and holds the Ryder Eminent Scholar Chair in Business in the College of Business at Florida International University in Miami. After her appointment as the priority candidate, she must undergo a 30-day public vetting period before her appointment as chancellor can be made official.
Texas Christian University’s Deepti Chadee to Lead the Association of College Unions International
Deepti Chadee is the director of the senior year experience at Texas Christian University in Fort Worth. She has held that post since January 2019. Earlier, she served for eight years as associate director of student activities and special events at Texas A&M University-Commerce.
Patricia Ramsey Will Be the First Woman President of Medgar Evers College in Brooklyn, New York
Dr. Ramsey, whose appointment is effective May 1, comes to CUNY from the Thurgood Marshall College Fund in Washington, D.C., where she spent the past year as a senior executive fellow. A biologist by training, Dr. Ramsey previously served as provost and vice president for academic affairs at Lincoln University in Pennsylvania.
Brooke Barnett to Serve as Provost at Butler University in Indianapolis
Dr. Barnett became dean of the College of Communication at Butler University on June 1, 2019. Earlier, she was a professor of communications and associate provost at Elon University in North Carolina. She joined the faculty at Elon University in 2001.
Deidra Peaslee is the New President of Saint Paul College in Minnesota
Dr. Peaslee has been serving as interim president of Saint Paul College since 2019. Previously, she served as vice president of academic and student affairs at Anoka-Ramsey Community College in Coon Rapids, Minnesota. Earlier, Dr. Peaslee served as assistant dean and director of the Graduate School of Business at DePaul University in Chicago.
Mills College Announces Plans to End Degree Programs and Transition to an Academic Institute
The board of trustees of Mills College, the liberal arts educational institution founded for women in Oakland, California, in 1852, announced that after this fall the college will no longer admit new undergraduate students and that the college will probably no longer confer degrees after 2023.
Luther College in Decorah, Iowa, Names Lynda A. Szymanski as Provost
When she takes office on July 1, Dr. Szymanski will be the inaugural provost at the liberal arts college. Since 1998, she has served on the faculty and held numerous administrative positions at St. Catherine Univerity in St. Paul, Minnesota.
Ramapo College of New Jersey Names Cynthia R. Jebb as Its Fifth President
Dr. Jebb has been serving as dean of the academic board and professor of comparative politics at the United States Military Academy at West Point. She is retiring as a brigadier general in the United States Army after 39 years of service.
Cynthia Anthony Appointed President of Lawson State Community College in Alabama
Dr. Anthony has been serving as interim president at the college since September 2020. Prior to her appointment as interim president, Dr. Anthony was interim vice chancellor for student success for the Alabama Community College System.
M. Katherine Banks Chosen to Lead the Flagship Campus of Texas A&M University
Dr. Banks currently is dean of the College of Engineering at Texas A&M. She also is vice chancellor of engineering and national laboratories for the A&M System — a title she will retain. Before coming to Texas A&M in 2012, she was chair of the department of civil engineering at Purdue University in West Lafayette, Indiana.
Majorie Hass Will Be the First Woman to Lead the Council of Independent Colleges
Dr. Hass has been president of Rhodes College in Memphis, Tennessee, since 2017. Prior to that role, Dr. Hass was president of Austin College in Sherman, Texas. Earlier, she spent more than 16 years as a member of the faculty and administration at Muhlenberg College in Allentown, Pennsylvania, rising to the rank of provost.
Laurie A. Carter Selected as the Seventeenth President of Lawrence University in Appleton, Wisconsin
Since 2017, Carter has been president of Shippensburg University in Pennsylvania. She spent 25 years in leadership positions at The Juilliard School and later was executive vice president and university counsel at Eastern Kentucky University. She will begin her new duties on July 1.
The American Society for Engineering Education Chooses a New Leader
Jenna Carpenter is the founding dean of the School of Engineering at Campbell University in Buies Creek, North Carolina. Dr. Carpenter will serve a one-year term as president-elect of the 12,000-member society beginning in June, followed by a full year as ASEE president.
Christine Johnson McPhail Is the New President of Saint Augustine’s University in Raleigh, North Carolina
Dr. McPhail has been serving as a professor of practice at the John E. Roueche Center for Community College Leadership at Kansas State University. Earlier, she was director of the Community College Leadership Doctoral Program at Morgan State University in Baltimore and president of Cypress College in California.
Alyson Stover Selected to Lead the American Occupational Therapy Association
Alyson Stover is an assistant professor of occupational therapy in the University of Pittsburgh School of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences. Stover is the first Pitt occupational therapy alumnus or faculty member to ever be selected to hold this national position.
Julia Chinyere Oparah Will Be the Next Provost at the University of San Francisco
Dr. Oparah has served on the faculty at Mills College in Oakland, California, for more than 20 years. In 2017, she was named provost and dean of the faculty at Mills College. She will assume her new duties at the University of San Francisco on July 12.
Florida State University’s Karen Oehme to Serve as Chair of the Academic Resilience Consortium
The consortium is an association of over 600 faculty, staff, and higher education students dedicated to understanding and promoting student resilience. Its members include representatives from more than 360 schools in 45 U.S. states and 17 countries, supporting one another in the effort to improve programming and pedagogy and remove systemic barriers to student success.
Jessica McHugh to Lead the Children and Youth Section of the American Occupational Therapy Association
Jessica McHugh is an assistant professor in the department of occupational therapy at the University of South Dakota. Dr. McHugh’s teaching is focused on pediatrics and early interventions. In addition to her teaching responsibilities, she conducts research in pediatric neurodevelopment and issues related to vision and youth occupations.
St. Lawrence University in New York Names Kathryn Morris as Its Nineteenth President
For the past eight years, Dr. Morris has been serving as provost and vice president for academic affairs at Butler University in Indianapolis, Indiana. Earlier, Dr. Morris served as a professor of psychology and was chair of that department at Butler. Her areas of expertise include social psychology, the psychology of gender, methodology, and statistics.
The Next Leader of the Pan American Nursing and Midwifery Collaborating Centers
Ada Markaki is an associate professor at the University of Alabama at Birmingham School of Nursing. The centers support the roles of nurses and midwives in advancing universal health access and coverage, as well as promoting cooperation on a regional and global scale.
Betty Rosa Named Commissioner of Education and President of the University of the State of New York
Dr. Rosa has served on the board of regents since 2008 and became the board’s chancellor in 2016. She resigned as chancellor in August to fill in as interim commissioner of education. Dr. Rosa holds two master’s degrees from the City University of New York and a master’s degree and a doctorate from Harvard University.
Deborah Archer Elected President of the National Board of the American Civil Liberties Union
Deborah Archer is a tenured professor of clinical law and director of the Civil Rights Clinic at New York University School of Law, and co-faculty director of the Center on Race, Inequality, and the Law at NYU Law. She will be the first African American woman to lead the ACLU in its 101-year history.
Vanderbilt University’s Vanessa Beasley to Lead the Rhetoric Society of America
Dr. Beasley is an associate professor of communication and associate provost and dean of residential faculty at Vanderbilt University. Before joining the faculty at Vanderbilt in 2008, Professor Beasley taught at Texas A&M University, Southern Methodist University in Dallas, and the University of Georgia.
Tiffany Hunter is the New Provost at Clark State Community College in Springfield, Ohio
Prior to coming to Clark State Community College in 2019, Dr. Hunter served at Florida State College-Jacksonville as the dean of education and human services and as a faculty member for more than seven years. Earlier, she worked for Catawba College in Salisbury, North Carolina.
Wake Forest University Appoints Susan R. Wente as Its Fourteenth – and First Woman – President
Currently, Dr. Wente serves as provost and vice chancellor of academic affairs at Vanderbilt University in Nashville. She has been on the Vanderbilt faculty since 2002. Dr. Wente began her teaching career at Washington University’s School of Medicine.

Melinda Arnold has been named provost and vice president for academic affairs for Texas A&M University-Texarkana and Laura Furge was named provost at Muhlenberg College, a liberal arts educational institution in Allentown, Pennsylvania.
Colleen Hanycz Will Be the First Woman President of Xavier University in Cincinnati
Since 2015, Dr. Hanycz has been serving as the first woman president of La Salle University in Philadephia. From 2008 to 2015, she was head of Brescia University College, a women’s college in London, Ontario, that is affiliated with the Catholic Church.
The New President of American River College in Sacramento, California
Since 2014, Dixon has served in administrative roles for the Los Rios College District, most recently as associate vice chancellor of educational services and student success. Prior to joining the Los Rios colleges, Dixon was assistant director of diversity and multicultural student services at Portland State University in Oregon.
Judith Gay Will Be the First Leader of the New Erie County Community College in Pennsylvania
Dr. Gay has been serving as vice president for strategic initiatives and chief of staff for the Community College of Philadelphia and was interim president during the 2013-14 academic year. Dr. Gay had planned to retire at the end of January.
Felicia Blow of Hampton University to Lead the Public Relations Society of America
Felicia Blow, vice president for development at Hampton University in Virginia, has worked in fields including manufacturing, waste management, environmental services, telecommunications, and higher education. Before coming to Hampton University, she served as director of public affairs for Cox Communications.
Michelle Majewski Is the Seventeenth President of Marian University in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin
Dr. Majewski has been serving as acting president since April 2000. She has been associated with the university for more than three decades as a full-time faculty member, chair, dean, and professor emerita. Dr. Majewski will serve as president through June 30, 2023.

L. Tracee Whitley as its new dean for administration, Harvard Law School’s chief administrative officer. Natasha Onken was named assistant dean for student financial services.
University of Utah Leader to Become President of Strada Impact in April
Ruth V. Watkins, president of the University of Utah since 2018, announced that she has accepted a position as president of Strada Impact, where she will drive Strada Education Network’s national research, philanthropy, policy, and thought leadership with the goal of improving students’ access to college, degree completion and career connections.
