Another Honor for the University of Denver’s Erica Chenoweth

The American Political Science Association has selected Erica Chenoweth, an assistant professor of political science at the University of Denver, and Maria Stephan of the U.S. State Department, as winners of its 2012 Woodrow Wilson Foundation Award.

The two women are being honored for their book Why Civil Resistance Works: The Strategic Logic of Nonviolent Conflict (Columbia University Press, 2011). Last month, the pair was announced as the winners of the 2013 Grawemeyer Prize for ideas improving world order. That award, for the same book, won the authors a $100,000 prize.

Dr. Chenoweth joined the faculty at the University of Denver this year. Previously, she was an assistant professor of government at Wesleyan University in Middletown, Connecticut. She is a summa cum laude graduate of the University of Dayton and holds a master’s degree and a Ph.D. in political science from the University of Colorado. She is the co-author of Rethinking Violence: States and Non-State Actors in Conflict (MIT Press, 2010).
