The new program will provide an online pathway for registered nurses to earn a master of nursing degree with a focus on midwifery. Students who enroll in the program will be trained to provide gynecological, prenatal, postpartum, and primary care for pregnant women and new mothers.
To support clinical training for aspiring midwifes, the University of South Carolina has established partnerships with the School of Medicine Columbia, Prisma Health Baptist, and the South Carolina affiliate of the American College of Nurse-Midwives. Upon completing their degrees, students will be prepared to sit for the certified nurse-midwife certification exam.

The college plans to launch a midwifery pathway for its doctor of nursing practice program in 2026.
