Jennifer Borland Receives National Recognition for New Book on Medieval Women’s History

Jennifer Borland, professor of art, graphic design, and art history at Oklahoma State University, has been awarded the 2025 Karen Gould Prize in medieval art history from the Medieval Academy of America for her book, Visualizing Household Health: Medieval Women, Art, and Knowledge in the Régime du corps (Penn State University Press, 2024).

Through interdisciplinary research on the history of medicine, art history, and gender studies, the monograph discusses images from medieval manuscripts to showcase the role medieval women played in household medicine. In addition to its latest honor, the book also received the Best First Book of Feminist Scholarship on the Middle Ages from the Society for Medieval Feminist Scholarship.

As an art historian, Dr. Borland specializes in the art and architecture of medieval Europe. She has been a faculty member with Oklahoma State University since 2007 and currently directs the OSU Center for the Humanities. A leader in the broader field of art history, she also serves as co-editor of the journal Different Visions: New Perspectives on Medieval Art

Dr. Borland received her bachelor’s degree from the University of Pennsylvania and her Ph.D. in art history from Stanford University in California.
