Michele Kozimor Wins Distinguished Teaching Award from the American Sociological Association

Michele Kozimor, professor of sociology at Elizabethtown College in Pennsylvania, has been awarded the 2024 Distinguished Contributions to Teaching Award from the American Sociological Association. The award is the association’s highest honor for teaching.

Throughout her career in higher education, Dr. Kozimor has been dedicated to innovative instruction, mentoring, and professional development for both students and faculty. She teaches a wide range of sociology courses and has been previously recognized for her excellence in teaching first-year seminars. Earlier in her tenure with Elizabethtown College, she served as director of the Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning. Currently, she serves as the college’s NCAA faculty athletics representative.

Outside of her roles with Elizabethtown College, Dr. Kozimor is the editor of the American Sociological Association’s journal Teaching Sociology. She is also the co-editor of Learning from Each Other: Refining the Practice of Teaching in Higher Education (University of California Press, 2018).

Dr. Kozimor is a graduate of Elizabethtown College, where she double-majored in English literature and sociology and anthropology. She holds a master’s degree and Ph.D. in sociology from Pennsylvania State University.
