Karen Weiss Named Seventh President of Southeastern Illinois College

Karen Weiss has been named the seventh president of Southeastern Illinois College. Southeastern Illinois College is a community college in Harrisburg, Illinois. The school enrolls about 1,400 students, 55 percent of whom are women.

Dr. Weiss began her career with Southeastern Illinois College in 1993 as an adjunct instructor of communications. Most recently, she served as the college’s vice president of academic affairs, where she oversaw all academic programs and maintained the college’s accreditation standards.

Outside of her position with Southeastern Illinois College, Dr. Weiss has been advocate for the advancement of community college education in the state of Illinois. She previously served as president of the Chief Academic Officers Group for Illinois Community Colleges, and is currently a member of the Illinois Council of Community College Presidents.

“I am eager to engage with the community to share my vision and work together to realize our collective potential for Southeastern Illinois College,” said Dr. Weiss

Dr. Weiss is a two-time graduate of Illinois State University, where she earned her bachelor’s degree in speech community and master’s degree in communications. She holds a doctorate in higher education from Oakland City University in Indiana.
