American Society for Mechanical Engineers Honors Xin Zhang With Its 2024 Lecture Award

Xin Zhang, distinguished professor of engineering at Boston University, has been honored with the 2024 Robert Henry Thurston Lecture Award from the American Society for Mechanical Engineers. The annual award is presented to a leader in the fields of applied science or engineering, providing them with the opportunity to present a lecture of broad interest to engineers. Dr. Zhang will deliver her lecture at the association’s International Mechanical Engineering Congress and Exposition in November.

Dr. Zhang has been a faculty member with Boston University for over two decades. In addition to her primary appointment in the department of mechanical engineering, she holds faculty affiliations with the division of materials science and engineering, the department of electrical and computer engineering, the department of biomedical engineering, and the Photonics Center. She also serves as the associate director of the Nanotechnology Innovation Center. Earlier in her tenure with Boston University, she served as associate chair of the department of mechanical engineering for three years.

As a scholar, Dr. Zhang’s research centers round the development of metamaterials and microelectromechanical systems. Her contributions to the field of mechanical engineering have earned her numerous awards including the Walston Chubb Award for Innovation from Sigma Xi and a membership with the European Academy of Sciences and Arts.

Dr. Zhang holds a Ph.D. in mechanical engineering from the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology.
