
As a scholar, Dr. Gauthier studies visual object recognition, with a particular emphasis on the plasticity of recognition mechanisms and their neural substrate. With funding from the National Science Foundation, her lab is currently researching how humans learn to categorize, recognize, and represent objects in different domains.
Dr. Gauthier first joined the Vanderbilt University faculty in 1999 as an assistant professor of psychology, eventually rising to the rank of full professor 10 years later. Currently, she holds an additional faculty appointment in the department of radiology and radiological sciences. She also serves as vice chair of the department of psychology.
Dr. Gauthier holds a bachelor’s degree in psychology from the University of Quebec in Montreal, Canada, and a Ph.D. in psychology from Yale University.
