Linda Tropp Awarded for Contributions to Psychological Research and Social Action

Linda Tropp, professor at the University of Massachusetts Amherst, has been honored with the 2024 Kurt Lewin Award from the Society for the Psychological Study of Social Issues for her contributions to the fields of psychology and social action. As part of this award, Dr. Tropp will deliver the 2024 Kurt Lewin Address at the society’s summer conference.

Dr. Tropp is a professor of social psychology in the department of psychological and brain sciences at the University of Massachusetts Amherst, where she also holds a faculty appointment in the School of Public Policy. Her research examines how members of different groups experience contact with each other, and how group differences in power and status can affect cross-group relations. Through her scholarly endeavors, she aims to identify mechanisms that promote social justice and improved relations between different groups.

“I must admit, this award means more to me than any other award in psychology, given how central the goal of conducting socially relevant research has been to my own professional development and career trajectory,” said Dr. Tropp

Dr. Tropp is a graduate of Wellesley College, a private women’s college in Massachusetts, where she double majored in psychology and Spanish. She received a master’s degree and Ph.D. in social psychology from the University of California, Santa Cruz.
