Christa Baker has been honored with the C.J. Herrick Award in Neuroanatomy from the American Association for Anatomy. The award is presented to early-career researchers who have made significant contributions to the field of comparative neuroanatomy.
Dr. Baker is an assistant professor of biological sciences at North Carolina State University. Her research examines how the brain extracts meaningful information from sensory inputs. Using fruit flies as a model organism, she studies how organization and function of auditory circuits enable recognition of species-specific acoustic communication signals. Prior to joining the faculty at North Carolina State University in 2023, Dr. Baker served as a postdoctoral research fellow at Princeton University.
Dr. Baker earned her bachelor’s degree in bioengineering from the University of Pennsylvania and her Ph.D. in neuroscience from Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri.
