A Quartet of New University Deans

Sandra L. Wong has been appointed the next dean of Emory University School of Medicine and chief academic officer for Emory Healthcare. An accomplished surgical oncologist and researcher, she will join Emory in March 2024. Dr. Wong is a surgical oncologist specializing in the management of soft tissue sarcomas, melanoma, and non-melanoma skin cancers. She is currently chair of the department of surgery at the Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center. Earlier, she taught at the University of Michigan for 10 years.

A native of Stockton, California, Dr. Wong completed her bachelor’s degree at the University of California, Berkeley. After receiving a medical doctorate from Northwestern University Medical School in 1997, she completed a surgical residency at the University of Louisville School of Medicine and a surgical oncology fellowship at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center.

Janet A. Guyden was appointed the interim dean of the Graduate School at Bowie State University in Maryland. For nine years, Dr. Guyden served as associate vice president for research and dean of the College of Professional Studies School of Graduate Studies and Research at Grambling State University in Louisiana. She also served as the interim dean of the College of Education at Florida A&M University and dean for admissions, recruitment, and financial aid at Paine College in Augusta, Georgia.

Dr. Guydon earned a bachelor’s degree in English from Howard University in Washington, D.C. She holds a master’s degree in counselor education from Worchester State University in Massachusetts and a Ph.D. in educational leadership from Georgia State University.

Amity Noltemeyer was named dean of College of Education, Health, and Society at Miami University in Oxford, Ohio. She has been serving as interim dean since the beginning of the year. Dr. Noltemeyer joined the faculty as an assistant professor of school psychology in 2010, and previously served as chair of the department of educational psychology.

Dr. Noltemeyer is a graduate of Xavier University in Cincinnati, where she majored in psychology. She holds a master’s degree in school psychology from Miami University and a Ph.D. in school psychology from Kent State University.

The University of Kansas has named Mary Rezac as the next dean of the School of Engineering, effective March 1. Dr. Rezac is currently dean of Washington State University’s Voiland College of Engineering and Architecture. She previously worked at Kansas State University for 15 years in multiple positions, including co-director of its Center for Sustainable Energy and head of its department of chemical engineering

Dr. Rezac earned her bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering from Kansas State University and her master’s degree and doctorate in chemical engineering from the University of Texas at Austin.

Dr. Martin has led Kilgore College on an interim basis since November 2025. She has been an administrator with the community college for the past 25 years.
