Torie Jackson Appointed President of West Virginia University at Parkersburg

Torie Jackson has been named president of West Virginia University at Parkersburg. She has been serving as interim president of the community college for the past academic year.

West Virginia University at Parkersburg, located in the northwestern part of the state, enrolls more than 2,300 students according to the most recent data available from the U.S. Department of Education. Women make up 63 percent of the student body.

An alumna of the Parkersburg campus with an associat’s degree in journalism, Dr. Jackson said, “I often say that this is the college that built me. And I literally mean that. When I was at a time in my life when things were difficult, this is the college that embraced me and helped me to develop confidence in myself. So, to be able to instill that confidence into students today is a dream that I’m happy to have.”

Before being named interim president, Dr. Jackson served in various roles at West Virginia University at Parkersburg. Her previous roles included chief operating officer, executive vice president for institutional advancement, president of the West Virginia University at Parkersburg Foundation and associate professor of communication.

Dr. Jackson holds a bachelor’s degree in journalism, a master’s degree in corporate/organizational communication, and a doctorate in higher education administration, all from West Virginia University.
