Here is this week’s news of grants and gifts that may be of particular interest to women in higher education.
Texas Woman’s University received a $100,000 donation from North Texas-based Ardent Healthcare to support the College of Nursing at the university. The gift will create an endowment to support scholarships for undergraduate nursing students and to fund salary enhancements for full-time faculty who demonstrate inspired teaching and a commitment to clinical practice and safety in hospice, palliative, and home health care.
A scholarship fund supporting women students at the Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology in Terre Haute, Indiana, has been established through a $500,000 donation by Cindy Thomas Kalkomey and Kurt Kalkomey in honor of Ted Thomas, Cindy’s father who has a 1943 graduate of what is now the Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology. Founded in 1874, the institute first admitted women in 1995.
Touro Law Center in Central Islip, New York, will receive a $475,000 federal grant to create a new Small Business Legal Clinic that will offer legal assistance to minority and women-owned small businesses. The free clinic will support the planning, development, and success of small businesses, creating a network of support and opportunities to help women and underrepresented communities. The grant will support the incubation, development, and success of minority and women-owned small businesses across Long Island through critical legal assistance, access to resources, networking building, and educational programing.
