Five Women Faculty Members Who Are Taking on New Assignments

Pianist Angelica Sanchez was appointed assistant professor of music at Bard College in Avondale-on-Hudson, New York, effective for the 2002-23 academic year. She has served on faculty at The New School of Jazz and Contemporary Music and at Princeton University.

Sanchez holds a master’s degree in jazz arranging from William Paterson University in Wayne, New Jersey.

Fatemeh Shahedipour-Sandvik, a professor of nanoscale engineering at SUNY Polytechnic Institute in Utica, was given the added duties of senior vice chancellor for research, innovation, and economic development for the State University of New York System.

Professor Shahedipour-Sandvik received her bachelor’s degree in physics from Tehran University in Iran. She earned a Ph.D. in solid-state physics from the University of Missouri.

Stephanie Hicks is joining the faculty of the communication sciences and disorders program at the University of Arkansas. She will be offering speech-language therapy services and supervising graduate and undergraduate student clinicians starting this summer.

Hicks is a graduate of Henderson State University in Arkadelphia, Arkansas, where she majored in speech-language pathology. She holds a master’s degree in speech-language pathology from the University of Arkansas.

Kim Cobb, a climate scientist whose research focuses on building capacity for climate solutions, has been appointed director of the Institute at Brown for Environment and Society in Providence, Rhode Island, effective July 1. She has been serving as a professor of Earth and atmospheric sciences at the Georgia Institute of Technology.

Professor Cobb is a graduate of Yale University. She holds a Ph.D. in oceanography from the Scripps Institution of Oceanography at the University of California, San Diego.

Alyssa Panitch, has been selected as the new chair of the Wallace H. Coulter Department of Biomedical Engineering at Georgia Tech and Emory University in Atlanta. She has been serving as the Edward Teller Professor in the department of biomedical engineering and as executive associate dean of academic personnel and planning in the College of Engineering at the University of California, Davis.

Dr. Panitch holds a bachelor’s degree in biochemistry from Smith College in Northampton, Massachusetts. She earned a second bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering and a Ph.D. in polymer science and engineering from the University of Massachusetts.
