Eight Women Who Have Been Appointed to Administrative Posts at Colleges and Universities

Helen Chen has been named senior vice provost for instructional programs at North Carolina State University, effective August 1. She has been serving as head of the Division of Experience-based Learning and Career Education and associate provost at the University of Cincinnati. Dr. Chen is the former dean of the College of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics at Johnson C. Smith University in Charlotte.

Dr. Chen received a bachelor’s degree in electronics engineering from Zhejiang University in Hangzhou, China. She holds a Ph.D. in computer science and engineering from the University of Cincinnati.

Valerie Grey was appointed senior vice chancellor for academic health & hospital affairs and Chief Hospital and Healthcare Operations Officer for the State University of New York. She was most recently the chief executive officer for New York eHealth Collaborative where she spearheaded the development and execution of the Statewide Health Information MENU Network.

Grey holds bachelor’s and master’ degrees from the University at Albany of the State University of New York System.

Valentina Kuskova has been appointed managing director for the University of Notre Dame’s AnalytiXIN program, headquartered in Indianapolis. The program is designed to safeguard the economic vitality of the state, especially in the face of the rapid rise and convergence of strategic technologies.

Dr. Kuskova earned an MBA from Boise State University and a master’s degree in applied statistics and a doctorate in business and decision sciences from Indiana University, Bloomington.

Ellen de Graffenreid will be joining Grinnell College in Iowa as the new vice president for communications and marketing. She has been serving as senior associate vice president for academic and executive communications at Syracuse University in New York.

De Graffenreid earned a bachelor’s degree in history at Indiana University, Bloomington. She holds a master’s degree in Russian and Soviet history from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and an MBA from Kenan-Flagler Business School at the University of North Carolina.

Miriam Bradley will serve as assistant vice president for principal relationship development at James Madison University in Harrisonburg, Virginia. She was the director of development for University Priorities and chief development officer for Global Affairs at the University of Virginia.

Bradley is a graduate of the University of Richmond in Virginia, where she majored in music and mathematics.

Christina K. Brogdon has been selected as Michigan State University’s first vice president of human resources and chief human resources officer, effective June 1. Most recently, Brogdon served as vice chancellor for human resources at North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University. Prior to that role, she served as chief human resources officer at the University of West Georgia, Radford University in Virginia, and Bluefield State College in West Virginia.

Brogdon is a graduate of Virginia Tech, where she majored in management. She holds an MBA from Averett University in Danville, Virginia.

Christine Lovely was named interim vice chancellor for budget and institutional analysis, finance, university resources, human resources, and administrative IT and business transformation at the University of California, Davis. She has been serving as chief human resources officer at the university.

Loverly is a graduate of the University of California, Berkeley. She earned a juris doctorate at the University of California, Davis.

Anita Borgmeyer will be the next vice president for marketing and communications at Saint Louis University in Missouri, effective June 15. She has been serving as the staff vice president for member engagement and communications at Centene Corporation.

Borgmeyer earned a bachelor’s degree in broadcast journalism from Missouri State University and a master’s degree in advertising and marketing from Webster University in Missouri.
