Three Women Who Have Been Appointed to Endowed Faculty Positions

Jhumpa Lahiri was appointed the Millicent C. McIntosh Professor of English and director of creative writing at Barnard College in New York City. She will hold affiliate status in the Comparative Literature and Translation Studies Program and in the department of Italian, and will be appointed as a Senior Fellow at the Italian Academy for Advanced Studies at Columbia University. Since 2015, Professor Lahiri has been a professor of creative writing at the Lewis Center for the Arts at Princeton University in New Jersey.

Dr. Lahiri graduated from Barnard College in 1989, with a degree in English and a focus on medieval and renaissance literature. She went on to receive master’s degrees in English, comparative studies in literature and the arts, and creative writing, and a Ph.D. in renaissance studies, all from Boston University.

Lauren Anderson, the James T. Marcus ’50 Scholar and associate professor in chemical and biomolecular engineering at Lafayette College in Easton, Pennsylvania, has been named the William Jeffers Director of Engineering at the college. She joined the faculty at the college in 2009.

Dr. Anderson earned her bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering at Lafayette. She completed her Ph.D. in biomedical engineering at University of Virginia

Allison Curseen has been appointed the Cooney Family Assistant Professor at Boston College. Her research focuses on African American and 19th-century American literature and culture. Her particular interests include performance and performance studies, child studies, and theories of fugitivity and unruliness.

Dr. Cruseen is a graduate of Oberlin College in Ohio. She earned a master of fine arts degree from American University in Washington, D.C., and a Ph.D. at Duke University in Durham, North Carolina.
