Marion Ehrich Wins the Mildred Christian Women’s Leadership in Toxicology Award

The American College of Toxicology has awarded the Mildred Christian Women’s Leadership in Toxicology Award to Marion Ehrich, professor emerita of pharmacology and toxicology at the Virginia-Maryland College of Veterinary Medicine. This honor is given to a woman who has impacted the advancement of science and practice of toxicology on a global level in a field dominated by men.

“This international award is unique in that it is named for and recognizes women leaders in toxicology, a field in which, for a long time, there were few who met the leadership criteria,” Dr. Ehrich said. “Women achieving leadership roles in this discipline has historically been challenging, making receiving the award remarkable.”

Dr. Ehrich began teaching at the Virginia-Maryland College of Veterinary Medicine in 1980. In 1999, she was elected a fellow of the Academy of Toxicological Sciences and served as its secretary-treasurer from 2006 to 2009. Currently, she serves as an associate editor for the International Journal of Toxicology.

Dr. Ehrich is a graduate of South Dakota State University, where she majored in pharmacology. She earned a master’s degree in pharmacy and toxicology at the University of Chicago and a Ph.D. in pharmacy and toxicology from the University of Connecticut.
