Caroline Genco to Serve as Provost at Tufts University in Massachusetts

Caroline Genco was appointed interim provost and senior vice president of Tufts University in Medford, Massachusetts. Dr. Genco, currently vice provost for research, will take over as the university’s interim chief academic officer at the start of 2022.

“I am honored to be entrusted with the responsibility of provost and vice president ad interim of Tufts, an institution that prioritizes academic and research excellence, interdisciplinary collaboration, and civic engagement,” said Dr. Genco. “These qualities are critically important as we educate the next generation of active and diverse citizens in a broad range of subjects from arts and humanities to engineering and science.”

“Some of Tufts’ greatest strengths are the research capabilities across our unique constellation of schools and centers and the numerous possibilities for synergy. I look forward to helping Tufts capitalize on these strengths while prioritizing the health and safety of our students, faculty, and staff,” she added.

Dr. Genco, who holds the Arthur E. Spiller M.D. Endowed Professor in Genetics, has served as vice provost for research for the past two years. Before becoming vice provost for research in 2019, Professor Genco served as chair of the department of immunology at Tufts University School of Medicine. She joined Tufts in 2015 from Boston University School of Medicine, where she was a professor in the departments of medicine and microbiology, and research director of the Section on Infectious Diseases.

Professor Genco is a graduate of the State University of New York at Fredonia, where she majored in biology. She holds a master’s degree and a Ph.D. in microbiology from the University of Rochester in New York.
