Two Women Scholars Named to Provost Positions at State Universities

Melody Tankersley has been named interim senior vice president and provost at Kent State University in Ohio. Dr. Tankersley has served as Kent State’s senior associate provost since 2015 and dean of graduate studies since 2016. She is also a tenured professor in the College of Education, Health, and Human Services. As an academic, her research focuses on supporting parents and teachers in responding to the emotional needs of children and students.

Dr. Tankersley holds a bachelor’s degree and master’s degree both in special education from Winthrop University in South Carolina, and a doctorate in special education from the University of Virginia.

Angela Peters was appointed provost and vice president of academic affairs at Albany State University in Georgia. She will assume her new duties on August 5. Since 2013, Dr. Peters has been serving as vice provost for academic programs at Claflin University in Orangeburg, South Carolina. Additionally, she has served as a professor and chair for the department of chemistry at Claflin.

Dr. Peters earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees in chemistry from Hampton University in Virginia. She holds a Ph.D. in biochemistry from University of South Carolina.
