The board of trustees of St. Louis Community College in Missouri has appointed women to lead two of the college’s campuses. System-wide, the college enrolls nearly 19,000 students, Women make up 60 percent of the student body.
Julie Fickas was appointed president and chief academic officer at the Forest Park campus. She started her career at the college in 1990 as an adjunct faculty member, teaching biology at the Florissant Valley campus. Dr. Fickas became a full-time faculty member in 2009. While at the community college, she has served as biology department chair at Florissant Valley; interim dean of science, math and health at Meramec, interim dean of business and communications at Meramec, and dean of science, technology, engineering, math and business at Forest Park. She has served as interim campus president and chief academic officer at Forest Park since July 2018. Dr. Fickas earned both bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Southern Illinois University Edwardsville. She earned an educational doctorate in interdisciplinary leadership from Creighton University in Omaha, Nebraska.
Feleccia Moore-Davis was appointed president and chief academic officer at the Meramec campus of St. Louis Community College. Most recently, Dr. Moore-Davis served as provost and vice president for academic affairs at Tallahassee Community College in Florida. Her career includes teaching psychology and serving as department chair. She previously worked at CyFair campus of Lone Star College in Houston as dean and vice president for instruction. Dr. Moore-Davis earned a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Xavier University in New Orleans, a master’s degree in industrial/organizational psychology from Texas A&M University, and a doctorate in organizational leadership from Regent University.
Although it was initially founded as school for women, the University of Montevallo has never had a woman president. Now the university has reached a historic milestone and selected selected Michelle R. Johnston to serve as its next president.
The women who are taking on new leadership roles with professional academic organizations are Yasmeen Shorish of James Madison University in Virginia, Elena Carbone of the University of Massachusetts Amherst, Shelley Lusetti of New Mexico State University, Oona Hathaway of Yale Law School, and Keisha Blain of Brown University.
Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory is a national program run by the University of California for the U.S. Department of Energy's Office of Science. Dr. Yelick, a computer scientist and longtime UC Berkeley faculty member, will become the laboratory's next director on July 1.
The selected candidate should have expertise and experience in theoretical models in labor and public economics as well as in microeconometrics and programming.
