Three Women Named to Endowed Professorships at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln

Grace Bauer has been named the Aaron Douglas Professor of English. She has taught in the University of Nebraska-Lincoln’s creative writing program for the past 24 years. She is the author of several poetry books, including Mean/Time (University of New Mexico Press, 2017), Nowhere All At Once (Stephen F. Austin University Press, 2014), and The House Where I’ve Never Lived (Anabiosis Press, 1993).

Professor Bauer is a graduate of Temple University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, where she majored in journalism. She holds a master of fine arts degree from the University of Massachusetts.

Julia McQuillan has been named the Willa Cather Professor of Sociology. She has served as chair of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln’s sociology department since 2012. Her research focuses on social inequality, with special emphasis on changing structures and practices to increase equity and well-being. In 2018, she received the Sociologists for Women in Society Distinguished Feminist Lecturer award.

Dr. McQuillan holds a bachelor’s degree, master’s degree, and Ph.D. all in sociology from the University of Connecticut.

Kristi Montooth has been named the Susan J. Rosowski Associate Professor of Biological Sciences. She has been a faculty member at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln since 2014. Earlier in her career, Dr. Montooth served as an assistant professor of biology at Indiana University.

Dr. Montooth is a graduate of the University of California, Irvine where she majored in biology with a specialization in evolution. She holds a Ph.D. in genetics and development from Cornell University in Ithaca, New York.
