Eight Women Scholars Who Have Been Assigned New Duties

Jill Miller has been named an assistant professor of art practice at the University of California, Berkeley. She previously served on the faculty at Stanford University.

Professor Miller holds a bachelor’s degree in English from the University of California, Berkeley and a master of fine arts degree from the University of California, Los Angeles.

Anju Manral has been named medical director of Student Health and Counseling at the University of New Mexico. She is an assistant professor in the department of medicine and practices medicine at the Northeast Heights Family Health Clinic.

Dr. Manral holds a medical doctorate with honors from the University of Delhi in India.

Kyla Terhune has been named vice president for educational affairs for Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville and associate dean for graduate medical education for Vanderbilt University School of Medicine. She is an associate professor of surgery and director of the surgery residency training program at Vanderbilt.

Dr. Terhune is a graduate of Princeton University in New Jersey where she majored in molecular biology. She holds a medical doctorate from the University of Pennsylvania Perlman School of Medicine.

Suzanne Judd has been named director of the Lister Hill Center of Health Policy at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. She is a full professor in the department of biostatistics in the School of Public Health at the university.

Dr. Judd is a summa cum laude graduate of Michigan Technological Institute where she majored in chemical engineering. She holds a master of public health degree in epidemiology and a Ph.D in nutrition and health sciences both from Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia.

Cory Abate-Shen has been named chair of the department of pharmacology at Columbia University’s College of Physicians and Surgeons. She has been a Columbia faculty member since 2007, currently serving as the Michael and Stella Chernow Professor of Urologic Sciences and professor of pathology and cell biology, medicine, and systems biology.

Dr. Abate-Shen holds a Ph.D. from Cornell University.

Stephanie Miles-Richardson has been elected president of the Council on Education for Public Health, an independent agency recognized by the U.S. Department of Education to accredit schools of public health and public health programs outside schools of public health. She is an associate professor of community health and preventive medicine, the associate dean of graduate education in public health, and director of the master of public health program at Morehouse School of Medicine in Atlanta. Her appointment makes her the first African-American president and the first to hail from a historically Black institution.

Dr. Miles-Richardson is a graduate of Grambling State University in Louisiana where she majored in biology. She holds a doctor of veterinary medicine degree from Tuskegee University in Alabama and a Ph.D. in pathology and environmental toxicology from Michigan State University.

Carol Steltenkamp has been named external chief medical officer for University of Kentucky HealthCare. She is a professor of pediatrics and has been a university faculty member since 1996.

Dr. Steltenkamp holds a medical doctorate from the University of Cincinnati.

Jennifer Meka has been named the inaugural director of the Medical Education and Educational Research Institute, the assistant dean for medical education at the Jacobs School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences, and an assistant professor in the department of medicine and the Graduate School of Education at the University at Buffalo. She was an assistant professor at the College of Medicine of Pennsylvania State University.

Dr. Meka holds a bachelor’s degree in secondary education and a master’s degree in teacher education both from Canisius College in New York, as well as a doctorate from the Graduate School of Education of the University a Buffalo.
