Elisabeth Mermann-Jozwiak has been named provost at Bucknell University in Pennsylvania. Her anticipated start date is June 1, 2019.
Currently, Mermann-Jozwiak serves as professor of English and women’s and gender studies and as dean of the College of Arts & Sciences at Gonzaga University in Spokane, Washington, a position she has held since 2013. Before that, she served as associate dean of the College of Liberal Arts and Haas Professor of English at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi.
In addition to her teaching and administrative roles, Dr. Mermann-Jozwiak is a member of the Committee on the Liberal Arts in the Council of Colleges of Arts & Sciences, the Spokane Arts Commission, and the board of trustees of Humanities Washington, the state arm of the National Endowment for the Humanities. She has also served on the Steering Committee of the Washington Consortium for the Liberal Arts.
In addition to numerous articles on Chicana literature, feminist theory, and popular culture, Dr. Mermann-Jozwiak is the author of Postmodern Vernaculars: Chicana Literature and Postmodern Rhetoric (Peter Lang International Publishers, 2005) and co-author of Conversations with Mexican American Writers: Languages and Literatures in the Borderlands (University Press of Mississippi, 2009).

Dr. Mermann-Jozwiak holds a master’s degree in English and theology from the University of Cologne in Germany and a Ph.D. in English from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
