Hollins University Reports a Significant Increase in First-Year Enrollments

What is now Hollins University in Roanoke, Virginia, was established in 1842 as Valley Union Seminary, a coeducational college. In 1852, the male department was eliminated and enrollments at the educational institution were restricted to women. In 2017, the university enrolled nearly 800 women in undergraduate program and 145 students in co-educational graduate programs.

Hollins University reports increased enrollment this academic year. The new first-year class is made up of 225 students. A year ago, there were 182 women in the first-year class. This is an increase of nearly 24 percent. The new first-year class also boasts an impressive 3.86 high school grade point average.

Hollins University is currently in the process of building 10 new student apartment buildings on campus. The $10 million construction plan will integrate sustainable designs into the project. Once completed, these apartments will allow a larger portion of the student body to live on campus.
