In Memoriam: Margery Smith, 1928-2018

Margery Smith, a long-time faculty member at Saint Catherine University in St. Paul, Minnesota, died on March 14 at Carondelet Village in St. Paul. She was 90 years old.

A native of Canton, Ohio, Smith graduated from what was then the College of St. Catherine in 1949. She went on to earn a Ph.D. at the University of Chicago. Sister Smith’s research focused on British literature of the Renaissance and the Elizabethan era.

Dr. Smith joined the faculty at what is now Saint Catherine University in 1968 and served on the English department faculty for a quarter century. In 1993, Dr. Smith was named archives director at the university and served in that role until her retirement in 2011.
