Merodie Hancock Selected to Be the Fourth President of Thomas Edison State College in New Jersey

The board of trustees of Thomas Edison State University in Trenton, New Jersey, has selected Merodie A. Hancock as the educational institution’s fourth president. Dr. Hancock will take office on March 5.

Thomas Edison State University enrolls nearly 12,000 undergraduate students and about 800 graduate students. Women make up 45 percent of the undergraduate student body. Founded in 1972, the university focuses on adult education.

Since 2013, Dr. Hancock has served as president of Empire State College in Saratoga Springs, New York, a campus of the State University of New York System. Earlier, Dr. Hancock was the vice president of the Global Campus of Central Michigan University. Prior to joining the staff at Central Michigan University in 2007, she was associate vice president of the University College at the University of Maryland College Park.

Dr. Hancock is a graduate of Scripps College in Claremont, California, where she majored in economics. She holds an MBA from Claremont Graduate University and a doctorate in urban services and education administration from Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Virginia.
