Jennifer Tank, the Galla Professor of Biological Sciences and director of the Environmental Change Initiative at the University of Notre Dame in Indiana will be taking on a new role. Professor Tank was named president-elect of the Society for Freshwater Science. She will serve as president-elect until May 2018, when she will become president.
The Society for Freshwater Science is an international scientific organization whose purpose is to promote further understanding of freshwater ecosystems (rivers, streams, lakes, reservoirs, and estuaries) and ecosystems at the interface between aquatic and terrestrial habitats (wetlands, bogs, fens, riparian forests and grasslands). The Society was founded as the Midwest Benthological Society in Havana, Illinois, in 1953. The society has nearly 1,800 members worldwide.
Professor Tank joined the faculty at the University of Notre Dame in 2000. Earlier, she taught at the University of Illinois. Dr. Tank is a graduate of Michigan State University. She holds a Ph.D. from Virginia Tech.
