Eleven Women Who Are Taking on New Administrative Duties in Higher Education

Karen M. Cardozo was appointed executive director of career development at Hollins University in Roanoke, Virginia. She has been serving as an associate professor of interdisciplinary studies at the Massachusetts College of the Liberal Arts in North Adams.

Dr. Cardozo is a graduate of Haverford College in Pennsylvania, where she majored in English. She holds a master’s degree in higher education administration from Harvard University and a Ph.D. in American literary studies from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst.

Lindsey Abernathy was promoted to associate director of sustainability at the University of Mississippi. She was a project manager in the Office of Sustainability. Abernathy joined the staff at the university in 2011.

Abernathy double majored in journalism and history and earned an MBA from the University of Mississippi.

Aimee Viniard-Weideman was named vice president for communications and marketing at Luther College in Decorah, Iowa. She is the former assistant dean and director of strategic communications and organizational development for the University of Minnesota Extension.

Viniard-Weideman is a graduate of the University of Iowa, where she majored in  journalism and mass communications and sociology. She holds a master’s degree in human development from St. Mary’s University in Minneapolis.

Helen Turner was appointed the inaugural vice president for innovation at Chaminade University in Honolulu, Hawaii. She has been serving as the university’s dean of natural sciences and mathematics. Prior to joining the university in 2007, Dr. Turner was associate director of the Queen’s Center for Biomedical Research in Honolulu.

Dr. Turner earned her Ph.D. at the University of London and performed post-doctoral work at Harvard Medical School.

Lesley-Anne Pittard is the new assistant vice president for campus and community engagement at the University of Oregon. She was the chief liaison for external and strategic partnerships in the Equity and Inclusion Laboratory at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

Dr. Pittard is a graduate of Hampton University in Virginia, where she majored in English. She holds a master’s degree and a Ph.D. in educational policy studies from the University of Virginia.

Kathryn Krier was named interim assistant dean for the arts at Yale University. In 2012, she was named director of Office of Undergraduate Production at Yale. In her new role, Krier will oversee the Center for Collaborative Arts and Media, the Yale Symphony Orchestra, university bands, and the glee club.

Krier holds a master of fine arts degree in technical design and production from the Yale School of Drama.

Karen Krahulik is the new senior associate dean for international programs and experimental learning at Princeton University in New Jersey. Since 2011, she has been the associate dean for academic affairs at New York University. Dr. Krahulik is the author of Provincetown: From Pilgrim Landing to Gay Resort (2005).

Dr. Krahulik is a graduate of Princeton University, where she majored in religion and was captain of the swim team. She holds a Ph.D. in U.S. history from New York University.

Meredith McCoy was named associate dean of the college at Washington and Lee University in Lexington, Virginia. She was a project manager at the Carver College of Medicine at the University of Iowa.

Dr. McCoy is a graduate of the University of Iowa, where she majored in psychology. She holds a Ph.D. in education from the University of California, Los Angeles.

Elizabeth H. Aeschlimann was appointed the Rose and Irving Rachlin Director for Jewish Student Life at Vassar College in Poughkeepsie, New York. She has served as an intern chaplain at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute in Boston.

Aeschlimann is a graduate of Carleton College in Northfield, Minnesota. She earned a master of divinity degree at Harvard University.

Misako Hata is the new lab director at the Ohio University Innovation Center, a high-tech business incubator. She was the facility manager at the Edison Biotechnology Institute at Ohio University.

Hata holds a bachelor’s degree in industrial systems engineering and master’s degrees in industrial systems engineering and biomedical engineering, all from Ohio University.

Charlotte Parks is the inaugural vice chancellor for development at the University of Mississippi. She was senior associate vice president for development at the University of South Carolina.

Earlier in her career, Parks was director of fundraising for the College of Business at Georgia State University in Atlanta and was vice president for resource development at Roanoke College in Salem, Virginia.
